PCZ.

how much did you put on Rosetta!!!

Have you tried linux vs windows comparisons?

All linux boxes at the moment.
My windows boxes are on SZTAKI

Linux does the WU's much faster at the momemt, they are talking about an optimised windows app.

I resisted the temptation to tell them not to bother :jester:

Is this project in the DCR yet :Pokes:

hmm, maybe I should throw some more boxen on.. I've finally just about got x2 #2 online. A minor networking problem and I'm about to install boinc :)

Can't do the stats until boincsynergy do them, well for now anyway :p

Bok

*EDIT* They have done them at boincsynergy... I'll get them running here as soon as I can and on the DCR..

stats are up

http://stats.free-dc.org/new/projpage.php?proj=rah

Got to do the other bits yet.

Bok

*EDIT* Ok, think I've done the rest.

I can see the Rosetta stats from the link you provided but they don't appear here http://stats.free-dc.org/index.php

ack,

I always forget to do the frontpage. Fixed.

Is it worth doing with Windows boxes? Or should I stick to other projects for now?

It takes a lot longer on the windows boxen and ignore the time to complete which is broken, but you do get quite a lot of points..

I'm getting 120 points on average for a unit on the 4200+ under XP.

Only about 25 points per unit on an average XP based machine.

So, yes, I think it's still worth it on windows based boxen..

Not until they release the improved Windows client, which might be next week.

It's REALLY slow now.

Just noticed that the WU's are now taking twice as long to crunch.

Getting 50 points instead of 25 on my linux boxes.
They are taking around 4 hours on an XP 2400.

Wow... either I'm going to have to switch to Linux or I should just concentrate on something else for now. My 2.4GHz x2 is taking over 8hrs per work unit.

Fozzie

how about firing it up on DPAD Jeff :D

No they seem to have got smaller again. :)

Back down to 2 to 3 hours.

But you get twice as many points for them...

There are new clients for Linux and Windows, ver 4.76 as of 22 Sep (today).
No new Mac clients yet. These new versions may be the cause for some of the variations. Time will tell. This looks like it could become a nice project. The management seems responsive which is always a big plus

@Fozzy, Maybe... I haven't run that project in ages... :D

@Bok, so credit varies per platform? Excuse the noobness but I'm not really up on anything BOINC since I swore I'd never run in. ;)

Basically I'd get almost the same amount of credit doing less work because I run Windows? (or am I all confused?)

Bok

I think you'd be getting the requisite amount of credit, just because it was projected for and ran for a long time.

I see you already have some score, check the results you've done on the website and see what credits you got for them and how long they took... we'll compare that with some linux results I have.

Jeff

You will get just as much credit as the folks running linux.

I checked a couple of your results and you got 11.3 points an hour.
This is spot on based on your benchmarks.

Jeff
09-22-2005, 02:43 PM
Ok, so because the Linux folks benchmark higher they claim less credit per work unit?

What are some other folks getting /hr?

TIA BTW. ;)

PCZ
09-22-2005, 03:05 PM
Not exactly.

The linux folks are getting less points per WU because they are doing them much faster.
The Rosetta application is currently much faster in linux.

The points you claim are based on your benchmarks and processor time.
The longer it takes to do a WU the more points you get.

So although the windows boxes can't do as many WU's in a day as the linux boxes they get the same points overall.

Jeff

I'll just take your word on it. ;)

Wow! 4.76 took my processing time from ~8hrs to ~1hr! Seems I'm getting about the same amount of credit per hour but personally I like completing the quicker units since it just feels like you're doing more work for the project as a whole.

Now I'm starting to like this little project. :D

[edit]
Just noticed one of my rigs is using 4.77 already. Talk about being involved!

willebenn
09-23-2005, 07:51 AM
WOW, you are right, the clients are now ver 4.77. Mine switched and I didn't notice it.  Those guys are getting it done.

PCZ

So are the Windows clients now as fast or faster than the linux clients ?

EDIT

I answered my own question, the windows client is now faster than the linux one

Jeff
09-23-2005, 09:52 AM
I was wrong... it seems like I went from ~11pts/hr to ~17pts/hr now. ;)

Jeff

The amount of points you claim an hour is dependent on your benchmarks.
boinc benchmarks your machine regularly.

On SMP machines running windows the boinc benchmarks are all over the place, if you re run them you see large variations.

I suspect that your benchmarks have gone up explaining the difference you are seeing in credit claimed.

HI Bok. Was just wondering do i need to be in a team to be recognized in your rosetta stats?

Bok
09-23-2005, 11:08 AM
As they stand publically right now yes, but wait just a day or two and I'll have the allteams/allusers running public. (they are running on my development box along with allteams for LHC, Sztaki and einstein)

Of course your welcome to join the Free-DC team :p ;)
