And I am starting to feel the heat!

With 9 puters, my RAC is just good for around position 30th. So that means that more heavy hitters are coming into this project and I am dropping in racks as we speak.

Also, within the Team, I am going to get RK by Laurenu2, devzero, Jeff Gilchrist and sTs950 in the short term.

So, :stomp: me now and I'll :stomp: you back very soon. Muahhahahaha.

This is just a trick so PY can :stomp: Us and then :stomp: Us again until we are all just tire tracks in his miror

New milestone - first time my RAC has topped 3000, with the 8 hosts that are running Rosetta ( and two of those are doing uFluids as well - but with a low share).

Nice one Angus,

just remember though ufluids does not like being swapped out... It will restart from zero IIRC.

What kind of puters do you have to get a RAC so high with just 9 host?

I've got 9 crunching away 100% and still only manage to get around 2100.

LAURENU2

Angus 3000 /8=375

PY 2100 / 9 = 233

Laurenu2 3711/ 44 =83

Lauren, are you using the optimized clients ?

If not, download them from here (http://boinc.truxoft.com/)

That'll help a lot...

I'm using the optimized BOINC client to get the benchmarks up, and also using the return_results_immediately option, which helps RAC.

Oh- and a few of those 8 are dual 2.8 Xeons running with HT on. The best one cranks out just over 500 RAC dedicated to Rosetta.

yup, use the one listed as SSE (it might say P4, but it's for SSE which is athlons too..)

i.e. this one (http://boinc.truxoft.com/download/v5.3.1-msc/p4-sse/boinc.exe)

Stop boinc, drop this one in and restart.

If you wish, check your benchmarks before and after.

Most of my machines are AMD too.

Bok

If you've not been using it, then if you drop that one in all 44 machines, you'll be doing more than I do per day....

AHhh... no wonder.

I too am using an optimized version of Boinc but my puters are single P4 2.8GHz with 3 2.8GHz HTs.

Now your RAC sounds about right. :thumbs:

Hmm I just tried this on a machine. The double precision went down, from 1543 to 1191. The integer went way up, from 2590 to 4446.

What I dont understand is the official version is 5.2.7 here http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php yet the optimized version # is 5.3.1. Do you think the guy producing these came up with that version # himself or is this a devo boinc version possibly available in the cvs tree?

Bok
11-19-2005, 09:27 PM
5.3.1 has been available in source form for quite some time..

Ok I found 5.3.1 under the HEAD of cvs. Recompiled on linux and no chg in integer or double benchmarks from 5.2.7.

OK BOK did it drooped the new one in on one node and benched it before and after

BEFORE
11/20/2005 12:13:35 AM|| Number of CPUs: 1
11/20/2005 12:13:35 AM|| 1886 double precision MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU
11/20/2005 12:13:35 AM|| 3280 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU
11/20/2005 12:13:35 AM||Finished CPU benchmarks

AFTER
11/20/2005 12:21:10 AM|| Number of CPUs: 1
11/20/2005 12:21:10 AM|| 1572 double precision MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU
11/20/2005 12:21:10 AM|| 5870 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU
11/20/2005 12:21:10 AM||Finished CPU benchmarks

The same thing that happened to MerePeer happened here
So the point system here is based on integer MIPS (Dhrystone)
not on the double precision MIPS (Whetstone)
Is this correct?

Bok, tried downloading, and installing the optomized client you gave Lauren the link to.Now it tells me wrong password.I tried putting in the attach to new project info, and it still doesn't work.What did I forget to do?

PCZ
11-20-2005, 01:05 PM
Lauren it's a combination of both.

Here is a quick way to calculate points per hour
Points Per Hour = (Whetstone + Dhrystone) /480

You can see how much credit per hour your clients are claiming in boincview.
On the hosts tab.

The figures from your standard client

11/20/2005 12:13:35 AM|| 1886 double precision MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU
11/20/2005 12:13:35 AM|| 3280 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU

10.76 pph

From the optimised client

11/20/2005 12:21:10 AM|| 1572 double precision MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU
11/20/2005 12:21:10 AM|| 5870 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU

15.51 pph

Thats a massive improvement don't worry about losing a few points off the Whetstone.

n7vxj

Did you go from version 4 to version 5 by any chance.

V5 boinc cretes a file called gui_rpc_auth.cfg when it first runs.
This contains a randomly generated password.

Stop boinc and edit gui_rpc_auth.cfg and put in a known password.
If you want a blank password erase all the txt, put the cursor at the beginning of the first line and hit enter so the cursor drops down a line then save the file.

Still finding my way around this one but I`ve put the optimised clients in and benched before and after but where do the results go?

But hey, what I love about new-ish projects.....I`m in the top 1000 already!!!

Edit.....
Why isn`t my sig updating for Rosetta? Got the right name etc in there far as I can see.

Bok
11-20-2005, 09:32 PM
If you go to your homepage and click 'your computers' you'll be able to see the new benchmarks on your pc's..

I've fixed your signature, your 'name' in Rosetta is 12301.

If you go here (http://stats.free-dc.org/new/teamstats.php?proj=rah&team=Free-DC)

then hover over your name or drill down on it, you can see your 'name', this is what the project assigns you. I have to use that one as it's unique. I also save your real name and show that.

Bok :cheers:

Well, the optimised clients seem to be going good as I seem to be up from an average 740ish to near a thousand.
Damn good stuff.
Tried that link Bok but didn`t work for me.
The name doesn`t give me anything on hover and I can only see my normal nick on the stat page (at the top).
Not to worry, doing good and stats is the best around as usual.
Off to see the big boss quack tomorrow to see whether I`ll be in dock before or after Xmas. Just hope this research project I`m mixed up in is finished before then otherwise I`ll have to delay my inpatient stay and miss out on tormenting the nurses again.:D

My bad, when I said hover over it, the link appears at the bottom with your 'name' or just click it and then look at the url to see the name=xxxxx

Just idling there and waiting for hours to communicate with the server.

The rest are ok and have work. Don't know why!

PCZ

PY

Either restart the clients or do an update.
Rosetts had a glitch yesterday and the clients backed off talking to the server.
My clients had run dry when i woke up this morning and had backed off for 24 hrs :(
I forced an update on all of them and they downloaded work and started crunching.

PY 222
11-22-2005, 01:01 PM
PCZ, how do you do a forced update?

I've stopped the clients and restarted it but it still said xxx hours to communicate with the server.

Bok

PY, I'm actually not sure how to do it via command line in linux, if you use Boincview though, it's easy enough to do it from there..
