For a Windows XP machine, I would like to know whether running the text mode client or running as an XP service yields the most structures/hour.

Thanks

Text client is always faster.

Be sure to read the "readmefirst.txt" file in your Distrib Folding directory.

Make sure to set "-qt" (without quotes) in your foldit.bat file

Make sure you create an autoupdate.cfg file in your folder and put a single 1 in it. That will ensure it updates your client automatically when proteins switch.

Find out how to set the priority of DF in XP and set it to the highest you can stand.

Click on the Distributed Folding Project Area on the FreeDC home page and you will find all sorts of speed tips and learn about optimizing. Also, turn off all non-essential services and control panels. Simple Windows housecleaning can get you great improvements in speed. Such as disabling Find Fast or disk indexing. Or switching to Linux or QNX.

RTM and you'll be ok.

Luck.
