Check out the screenshots I've been keeping of the RC5 completion date. This date is based on the date where they totally run out of keys, which is not necessarily the actual completion date.

They've dropped 142 years in the span of a month. At this rate, the project will be ending 'soon'. :umm: :geezer:

Hmm, not quite what I thought this thread was going to be when I read the title. :)

Good to see that the exhaustion date is dropping so quickly.

It will be interesting to see what it is next month, if it is still going down or starting to move back up a little.

alpha -

I'm not sure whether I want RC5 completed yet or not. I *love* the client. There is no better one available. But, I don't care for the goals of the project. If the BOINC client were as good as the d.net client (or allowed for things like the d.net pproxy), then I'd very likely move over there in a heartbeat.

Oh well.

DP, I too am not a huge fan of the RC5-72 project simply because I feel there are more important DC projects around. However, I too think the client software is easily (one of) the most impressive and reliable in comparison with anything else.

However, if you're only running it for the advantages the client software has to offer, perhaps you might consider OGR? I consider it a much more worthy cause and you still get to use the same client. The project won't be ending any time soon, and that is a guarantee (however, RC5-72 could finish any time).

If you are unfamiliar with the nature of the OGR project, there is some good information on the distributed.net website.

I don't really have anything against BOINC since I have always found it stable and manageable, however I agree that it would be useful to have some kind of pproxy equivalent.
