I don't know exactly whether our server can handle all that. It is currently a PentiumIII 500Mhz running Debian 3.1 with a 100mbit internet connection.

Maybe it is better to keep it quiet a bit longer.
The current stage of the project is almost finished and it might be some time before we can start the next stage. And we don't want people to get disappointed about HashClash if they just joined and couldn't get any work anymore. Furthermore we could use the time in between to make sure our server can hold the stress.


So keep that in mind if you run it.

I still use a P3-600E as my home network server.

Its very stable and doesnt, DOESNT get hot even when the room temp hits 90F in the summer...... Everybody starts to complain when house temp gets by 80.........

To be honest I still use a P2-333 as my firewall :) Runs OpenBSD and NEVER ever goes down...

So many projects... so little time... This project might put even more of a nail in the already dying MD5...

I still run my main mail/web server on a Celeron 900. It was recently upgraded to 512MB of RAM, but even with 256MB running Linux and Apache/PHP/MySQL it was able to survive a /.ing on my home cable Internet. I was very impressed. The only time it goes down is when I do kernel upgrades.

My home server is a P2 233 with 192MB RAM running FreeBSD 6.0-STABLE (soon to be 6.1-STABLE). I'll just reiterate what everybody else has said by saying that it is rock solid 24/7 and only ever goes down for core updates.
