I'm starting this thread under the assumption that Orbit@Home is the asteroid checking BOINC project, if I'm wrong, I apologize.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has read the story in the December 2006 Popular Mechanics about the Killer Asteroid which has a small chance, 0.3% to be exact, on April 13th(a Friday) 2029, of hitting the earth. There is also a tiny chance it will hit us exactly 7 years later, on April 13th, 2036.

Perhaps someone would like to post a good website to find the email addresses of our Senators and Congressmen? They ARE the ones who vote on funding.

edit: Hand-written letters get better responses, since that usually means you've put more time and expense in writing the letter. If you want to be sneaky, you can plan it in a word processor, print it out, and copy it long-hand.

Never mind, I'll do a search and post a good address.

lol, no. The project isn't up because it needs funding, so I wrote a polite letter to each person requesting that they support funding it.

i have been waiting for orbit@home to get their finger out for a few years now. I expect we (earth) will get the climate sorted out, then get wacked by an asteroid.

What a century this is going to be :looney: :looney: :bonk: :bonk:

It's not about them getting their finger out.(What a horrible picture it is, someone pulling their finger out of their butt. And my imagination, for some reason, then makes them sniff their finger. Ick.)

The problem is that the politicians don't seem to realize how big the danger is. They need to get a handle on this RIGHT NOW.
