It Really slows down the web here
I plan to put 90% of my nodes on the 2nd line
That should allow me to put more nodes online
and have all nodes run Eon 24/7 along side

It is just uneconomic to run the old stuff.

A couple of core2's can easily outproduce the old XP farm and use a fraction of the electricity.

Actually, O Great Mouth (and your acolyte, grovelling there), actually, the time to overtake is based on the Daily Average which itself is based on the Last Seven Days' Total. As we only started pushing this week, the Time to Overtake won't be accurate until next Sunday or Monday.

Or my change over to DSL. Got the line run and then they said they could not complete it because they did not have any copper pair run out this far yet.
The Sh!T Reilly hit the Fan that day
I made them run a pair just for me I was so P-off I even had my lawyer in on a conference call with 2 of there supervisor's. But I Got it and had it for 1 1/2 years before any one else could get it here
top speed back then was only 125K up 378K down

Well it looks like I will be on the phone tomorrow morn:swear:

LAURENU2

Well I after 1/2 dozen :swear: phone calls I got a GREEN LIGHT  on the DSL modem
But this DSL modem is different then the ones I have had in the past.
It stores the account name and password in it and I can't seem to figure out how to connect a DSL router to it.
It works if I connect 1 PC to it But Does Not if I put a router between the modem and PC:bang:
I'm not sure if the DCHP is given out by the modem or the DSL network
So Right now it is just on my Wifes PC and I Am Still In Bandwidth Jail :cage: LET ME OUT:cry:
At least she can do her med. notes without:slap:

Might have to setup a Dchp Server PC to connect to the modem and use a 2nd NIC to connect the network to it

Or maybe just a Hub will work I will play with it next week when the wife go's Italy
But At least now I can fire up some more nodes

IronBits
10-07-2007, 02:23 PM
That's simple. Turn off the DSL modem for 30 seconds. While you are waiting, plug it into your Broadband Router and turn it on. Don't hook any PCs up to it yet... Now turn on your DSL modem, wait for the green light, start plugging in boxen :)
When you turn on a DSL or Cablemodem, it LOCKS onto the FIRST device it finds, in this case, it was your PC. No matter what you plug it into from there, nothing else will work but that 1st device it locked onto. To reset, unplug the DSL/Cablemodem, wait 20-30 seconds, then turn it on. It will discover the first device it can find and lock onto it's MAC address and won't let go.

LAURENU2
10-07-2007, 02:46 PM
Should I still have the Router set to PPPoE OR SET TO AUTO DCHP
And just use it as a gateway

THIS DID NOT HAPPEN WITH MY OLD MODEM/ROUTER
dam cap lock sorry
I could turn router/modem off and on as I wanted with all nodes on

IronBits
10-07-2007, 03:53 PM
Depends on how the ISP set it up. How is your other one setup? Normally it's DHCP.
Any you want to unplug the DSL/Cablemodem, not just turn it off.

LAURENU2
10-07-2007, 05:36 PM
My Old DSL router is set to PPPoE But the password is not stored on the Modem So it required a name/password the be entered by either a DSL router W/PPPoE Or A computer running a PPPoE program

The New DSL Modem stores My Name/password in it so I do not need to input it at a start of a session
I have Tried using PPPoE on the router with a PC hooked to it and a no go
I have Not tried your way yet, with Just a modem and a DSL router
I was waiteing for a WU to finnish Dam Boinc no save points

Nope this did not work
Next I will just try a Switch or a Hub WO/DCHP

IronBits
10-10-2007, 07:25 PM
Nope this did not work
Next I will just try a Switch or a Hub WO/DCHP That won't work either. You have to connect a PC to the Router, and change it's LAN IP.
Let's say the default is 192.168.1.1 - and that's what the other router is using.
You need to change it to 192.168.2.1 and put all your crunchers behind it.
Now when they boot up, they will get an IP addy of 192.168.2.100-254 and go thru that router for DHCP and DNS.

Then we come up with some vodoo magic so your PC on 192.168.1.* IP range can talk to the 192.168.2.* IP range to work with the boxen. ;)

LAURENU2
10-10-2007, 08:49 PM
IB I had to turn off the gateway and the PPPoE and the DCHP on the router so it would just act as a Hub
AND it WORKS Go figure:bang:
The modem is a PPPoE / DCHP server gateway I just had to hook up a router hub or switch to add more ports

Thanks Paratima for the Offer but ports are not a problem here

Now that I can isolate the People PC's From the DC PC's I can open Eon clients on all nodes

It sure was no fun waiting a min for a web page to open or refresh

Who knows what PPPoA is And how is it differant then PPPoE:Pokes: PPPoE:
As customers deploy ADSL they must support PPP-style authentication and authorization over a large installed base of legacy bridging customer premises equipment (CPE). PPPoE provides the ability to connect a network of hosts over a simple bridging access device to a remote access concentrator or aggregation concentrator. With this model, each host uses its own PPP stack, thus presenting the user with a familiar user interface. Access control, billing, and type of service can be done on a per user, rather than a per site, basis.
As specified in RFC 2516, PPPoE has two distinct stages: a discovery stage and a PPP session stage. When a host initiates a PPPoE session, it must first perform discovery to identify which server can meet the client's request, then identify the Ethernet MAC address of the peer and establish a PPPoE session id. While PPP defines a peer-to-peer relationship, discovery is inherently a client-server relationship.

PPPoA:
Primarily implemented as part of ADSL. It relies on RFC1483, operating in either Logical Link Control-Subnetwork Access Protocol (LLC-SNAP) or VC-Mux mode. A customer premises equipment (CPE) device encapsulates the PPP session based on this RFC for transport across the ADSL loop and the digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM).

Point-to-Point Protocol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point-to-Point_Protocol) (PPP) over ATM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asynchronous_Transfer_Mode), is a network protocol for encapsulating (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Encapsulation_%28networking%29) PPP frames in ATM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asynchronous_Transfer_Mode) AAL5 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AAL5). It is used mainly with cable modem (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cable_modem), DSL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Subscriber_Line) and ADSL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asymmetric_Digital_Subscriber_Line) services

Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet, is a network protocol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_protocol) for encapsulating (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Encapsulation_%28networking%29) PPP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point-to-Point_Protocol) frames inside Ethernet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet) frames.
