Why would I get a status 905 error User handle not found message?

The client attempted to upload this AM and got that message and continued on, but it had been running succesfully since March with my handle.

I just had exactly the same error. Also, I can't log in to the High Flyers section, neither with my e-mail, nor my handle

Don't worry, we all suffer from our little identity crisises now and then.

The important thing isn't whether WE believe you exsit (actually, most of us don't).

The important thing is to believe in yourself.

Remember: You make it happen!

Every Time the Client delete the Handle.txt.
The Client-Service was running and generating Points tonight on NT4 but after reboot...

Why is th DL-Link the old one.

Every Time the Client delete the Handle.txt.

Hmmm. That doesn't sound right. I don't think there is any part of the update process that removes your handle. I think the general problem description is that the server (remote...back end...upstream) process that validates the handle that your client sends as its identifier isn't currently able to verify the handles that it is being sent.

Anyway, after reading your message I checked a couple machines, and found that they still contain Handle.txt; and that it still has what appears to be the correct value. So my problem may be bad, but yours sounds worse.

The problem of the server deleting "handle.txt" seems to only occur on freshly-restarted clients. Ones that are still running don't seem to have this identity crisis.

Conclusion: Don't ever stop folding! :D

...and don't reboot...

Deleting the 'handle.txt' file is normal as long as the login to the servers will fail.

And yes it only affects clients which are restarted.

So still running clients should fold on until they can login but new sessions are not possible until the User Database is back online ....

Ni!

If the client stops, when you restart it it prompts you that your handle
does not exist and deletes handle.txt.
I restarted it by hand and noticed this behavior.

The first post was around 6am Toronto time...so it may be a while before the problem is addressed. :-( I noticed that I had several updates just sitting on my computer and I wanted to force an upload. Bad idea. I stopped my client and now it won't start again. DF doesn't know me.

Ah well. My other computer is "in the shop" at the moment, so at least I won't be falling behind my teammates while my computer gets repaired (since everyone else is down now too).

BTW, has anyone notified our handy DF technical types? I would have no clue how to do that.

Hi all,new Member,
Moira, you could still be folding,.....just switch it to "Disable Net Access".

- It appears that our old database decided to play one last trick before we change to the new backend, and crashed. If you are getting STATUS 905 USER HANDLE NOT FOUND, or it claims that your e-mail does not exist, those messages are due to the database crash. It will be fixed ASAP, so please be patient with us. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Paratima,
not quite right.........on my server I have it folding 24/7 and when it comes to uploading the stucts it gives me the 905 error code too.
I only reboot the server for maintanance maybe 4 times a year.

Be careful with this. I tried it...and it appeared to delete all of my un-uploaded data as it re-started. I lost about 20 hours worth of folding data.

It is always best to just leave the client alone when an error occurs and just let it keep going, it will correct itself. The client may do unpredictable things when the server goes down momentarily.

Anyhow, it is back up and functioning now so fold on (and see the other thread on this error msg)

Well, poop! :swear:
First of all, nothing should be getting deleted by this program, especially the handle.txt!
If it's wrong, so beit, don't run the program, but please, stop with this deleting stuff that belongs to me, or that I had to create.

When I ran it, like you all said, it prompted me for a handle...
I used control-C to get out of it.
I had to create a new handle.txt of course, but the work units were still there, and the filelist.txt file appears to be intact.

Thanks for getting it fixed Brian!
