After checking the only other thread (http://URL=http://bane.free-dc.org/forum/showthread.php3?s=&threadid=74) that mentions this error and checking the thread with the instructions, I'm still not sure what to do. Here's more info:

This filelist.txt was generated automatically. Any ideas?

You created an illegal file and then tried to upload it. The police are on the way. Where would you like them to lock you up?

Just kidding... I would try deleting the first two lines from the filelist.txt and then try again.

Are you missing the fold*.bz2 files that the filelist.txt file mentions? They don't show up in your directory listing. If so, just delete filelist.txt and restart the client. If the fold*.bz2 files are missing then there is no work to upload.

Ni! :p

deletion didnt help much.... and as to the fold_ files.... they're in there... just on the second column of the output from ls... kinda hard to see, but look closer :)

Here's the update on this: I sent them back to my friend who generated them to try to upload. His client didnt complain about illegal files, but he got a 908 incorrect protein. Then after further consideration, he realize that he had begun nonetting the machine last tuesday morning (ie before the change).

D'oh! :bang: :swear:

Actually, Illegal file in filelist means that you are trying to upload a file that does not end in .bz2 This is so people can't try to upload .exes, etc. Thus either there is such a file in the filelist.txt, or there is a 'hidden' control character in the file which you could check in a good hex editor. I'd check the utility that generated the list in the first place for bugs if I were you.

Probably it wasn't the thing that generated the list, but somehow when it was generated in windows, zipped, and then unzipped and tried to upload in linux that probably did it. That must have been why he didnt get this same error in windows.

When it has happened to me (twice so far), I edit filelist.txt and remove the first 2 lines, save it and exit, bring the client backup and it cheerfully begins to upload. Once there was 113, another time it was like 34 before I caught it. That was the reason for requesting that the total cached or stored WUs be shown on the ascii art screen someplace. ;) :)
