I saw this issue only once, about Aug. 15 02. The PC locked up and I had to power-cycle it; the DF service did not restart when I restarted the PC. I opened the Services applet, and tried to start the service. No luck.
I deleted the old .lock file & the service started up.
I haven't seen the issue before or since. Normally the service deletes the old .lock file & starts up fine.
Win2000 SP2, 1.8 GHz Dell Dimension.
