View Full Version : ability to disable subforums on the new posts link?

I don't know how the others think about that...

Every time I visit this forum, I use the "new posts" link on the top of the page to get to know the latest threads. When I didn't visit longer than one day, I have to go through some pages of threads and there are a lot I'm not interested in... i.e. Boinc News, Distributed Proofreading, which takes about 70% of the posts every day.

I'd like to know how you guys think about that!
Do we have any possibility to filter subforums?

Thanks

I can't say I've ever seen it. I had a look just a couple of weeks ago at the options on new posts after someone else asked me about it, but there was nothing available to do like you ask. Might want to search over at vbulletin.org, perhaps someone has made a mod of it..

I personally just use the frontpage (vbAdvanced) at http://www.free-dc.org I need to actually update to the latest to hopefully fix the birthday panel at some point..

Not to see Boinc News and Distributed Proofreading showing up in the new posts would be just fine with me. :)

Of course, there is a link called "Mark Forums Read" at the bottom of the Forum page...
I read the ones I'm interested in then click
http://www.free-dc.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?do=markread
:D

You can double-click on the little bulletin-board icon next to a forum name in the index to mark that subforum read. I use this all the time when I want to clean all those scads of Distributed Proofreading messages out of the New Posts page. :)

Max, great suggestion!! The double click onto the icon works fine! Not 100% but better 95% than 0% :D

IB, the "mark forums read" I do from time to time, so I'm aware of this link, thanks!

Bok, the front-page is great for threads with only one page, but like the "Rollin..." thread with a lot of pages it isn't that good, because if you click on the front-page link it starts at the very first page and not at the page with the first unread post!

Thanks for your replies!

There is a link to the last page on each thread, it's the > icon by the user in the last post column.

never noticed it, but if you hoover it with the mouse it says "go to last post" :D

Or even better: the little downwards-pointing arrow in front of the thread name (both on the main www.free-dc.org page and on the individual forum pages) will take you to the first unread post in the thread. :)

http://www.housrofrahl.com (http://www.housrofrahl.com/) doesn't go anywhere...

If I could spell I'd be dangerous..

Fixed it in my signature..

Mod doesn't seem to do anything unfortunately. Perhaps it only works on vbulletin < 3.7

*EDIT* I tell a lie, it actually changes the link and I hadn't reloaded. Works now. I have it here now at least on the Free-DC template, not in the Seventeen or Bust or other templates yet.

so there is a chance to get a "clean" new-posts-list without doing 3 things before?
