Well, sorta ;)
Looking for any nice pictures and procedures
that demonstrates where that L5 bridge is located exactly
among the many teenie weenie itsybitsy gold dots. :)
As I understand it, this would allow an XP processors to be recognized as MP processors, to say like the ASUS A7M266-D.
This would allow them to run in Dual mode, even tho there is probably a performance hit somewhere to some, for others running a DC Farm, it's not a problem... As I understand it of course...

XP to MNP link (http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/articles.hwz?cid=2&aid=393)

I just did this with a pair of XP 2200 Thoroughbreds. Worked well with only one minor problem.

The chips booted and were recognized as MP 2200+'s. On the ASUS board it said that CPUO was MP capable and CPU1 was not MP capable.... Both CPUs are seen and are working... What the message means is beyond me :D

Thank you, that's a good one to start off with, I know we have it here in a couple other threads...
Now, what is this 'conductive pen' they didn't talk about?
I heard you could use a pencil, but to me, that's some TINY little dots to cross.
Is there something around the house that would work or do I have to run out to Radio Shack to get this stuff?
How much does it cost and what does it look like?
:)

With the old Durons (like mine) you could use a pencil. with the XPs and XP-based durons, they grounded one side, so the pencil's not conductive enough anymore. gotta have the pen. Probably have to go to radio shack or online, i doubt you have silver conductive ink anywhere in your house :)

The conductive pen is a dispenser of liquid material shaped like a pen. The conductive material is silver and probably made out of silver or some other metal, suspended in a fast drying carrier. It is held inside the pen and when you push in the tip of the pen a little is released and coats the tip.

The pen costs around 15.00 and is found in better electronic shops. Radio shack does not carry it in it's stores, might find it in their cat.

I have found that its best NOT to use the tip of the pen. I always shake up the liquid, there is a ball inside the pen that is shook loose and helps mix the fluid. I then press the tip and make a small pool of liquid on a piece of metal or glass. I then dip the end of a safety pen or sewing needle into the pool and use that to make the bridge. The tip of the pen, even the micro tip, is just too large to connect the bridge. I use a Lighted Maginifying glass and have never had to resort to tape or other means of sheilding the bridges.

IF you use this method you could also use the repair liquid that the auto parts stores sell to repair rear window defrosters. I use the conductive liquid because you can completely remove it using laquor thinner :)

Good advice Steve! :D
Wow, I found someone online that has it here in California.
http://www.electroniccity.com/shopping/pricelist.asp?prid=223&brandinc=32
Only $17.37 shipped
Just in case someone might want to do this, now that they know what to get and how to do it. :)
Now I have to figure out how much it costs to have Steve do it for you (no warranties of any kind of course) ;) :jester:

Nice instructions from Steve:)
When I did my XP1800, the L5 bridges that were cut and needed to be connected, were the ones facing the core, at the inner end. And I found that it was convinient to paint around the pit, and being old and shaky:scared: , I taped around. And take the time to let the paint dry.

ok, I just had to try it (I'm from Missouri... NOT!) ;)
It worked perfectly! :D
I enabled full MP suport on the ASUS A7M266-D motherboard and it came right up,
after the construction of that L5 bridge that is :jester:
Another Dual XP1900 added to the Farm :smoking: :|party|:
I used a piece of scotch tape just to make sure I didn't make a big mess.
Thanks for the TIP on the TIP being too big Steve, worked great.

Yesterday I upgraded an MSI K7D-L (upgraded bios first) with two AXP 2400+ (connected L5), and it's crunching nice and fast.

Here's a pic of the L5 I joined to get my XP2400's up and running:

Well, I couldn't stop there so I tried a little overclocking. I set 150fsb and 1.75v and up she fired....it's been running now at 2x2250MHz for the last few days @ 100% running G@H.

LOL...it's an Iwill MPX2. I have had it slightly higher but get random reboots. I am assuming it is the registered PC2100, so I now have some registered PC2700 on order :)

I understand that folks have used rear defogger repair kits with acceptable results. US$10 or so at an auto parts store.
