View Full Version : Production of a P3 500 with the -rt switch?

I have a single p3 550 running off location doing DF. My stats have been showing 20K/day production.
Is that really low, or is that about right?
Note that I also have a G4 800 part time.

Mostly what I'm trying to figure out is, did the update fail on that system?

how much ram does it have?
what OS is it running?

i have some P3-450's with 128MB of ram running windowsXP

with the old protein, they are able to use the -rt switch and benefit

with the new protein, they don't have enough ram and start to page out/run out of "Real" memory and go from about 60k a day to about 20k a day

my guess is that you should drop the -rt switch

unless you have more than 128MB or are running win98/95, if so, then i don't know why it would be that low

i just checked three p3-450 systems, here are the benchmarks

------------------------------------------------------------
Distributed Folding Windows dfGUI v1.8 Benchmark

Sample Size : 78775 structures over 239302 seconds.
Protein Size: 105AA

Structures Per Second: 0.33
Structures Per Minute: 19.8
Structures Per Hour : 1185
Structures Per Day : 28442

OS : Windows XP MHz: 448
CPU: GenuineIntel x86 Family 6 Model 7 Stepping 3
Client Switches: -df -qt -i f -s 10000
------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
Distributed Folding Windows dfGUI v1.8 Benchmark

Sample Size : 189340 structures over 241252 seconds.
Protein Size: 105AA

Structures Per Second: 0.78
Structures Per Minute: 47.1
Structures Per Hour : 2825
Structures Per Day : 67809

OS : Windows 95 MHz: ???
CPU: GenuineIntel
Client Switches: -df -qt -i f -rt -s 10000
------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
Distributed Folding Windows dfGUI v1.8 Benchmark

Sample Size : 189600 structures over 241197 seconds.
Protein Size: 105AA

Structures Per Second: 0.79
Structures Per Minute: 47.2
Structures Per Hour : 2830
Structures Per Day : 67917

OS : Windows 95 MHz: ???
CPU: GenuineIntel
Client Switches: -df -qt -i f -rt -s 10000
------------------------------------------------------------

so you can see that the two windows 95 pc's using -rt are producing much more than the system without -rt
but running WinXP uses too much memory to run the -rt switch on that box

just to be sure, i will change the XP box to use -rt for a few hours and then post the benchmark here again

later

512MB ram, NT4 Server

I'm guessing that it failed to update, and the 20K is from the 800MHz G4 then, since it can probably do 80K+ based on those benchmarks.

Thx,

Scott

i think you are correct

just for reference , here is the P3-450 running XP

but if you try to do anything on this system is churns the hard drive like crazy, XP on this box with 128mb is pushing it anyway, adding DF using the -rt is crazy!
