As of this afternoon, Aqua is granting 1.8X more credit per WU. (http://aqua.dwavesys.com/forum_thread.php?id=39)

Also, looks like Seti-Germany has discovered this project. They have out-produced us 4:3 today.

pfb

Wondered why Aqua had suddenly matched the amount of credit the other 2 projects I'm getting...still seems to be some valid concerns over the optimised clients though.

Set your work buffer to more then 1 day
Also bench with only it running
Are you running the new V6.45 BOINC

The expected time-to-completion time that comes with the WU is seriously too high (8 hrs or more), so as soon as the Duration Correction Factor makes its adjustment, you'll start getting more work. It's over-stated by about a factor of 5.

What is Aqua all about?

From the website:

AQUA@home uses Internet-connected computers to help design and analyze quantum computing algorithms, using Quantum Monte Carlo techniques.

Not really it's a BOINC thing, fire up and forget, I mean check it now and then as with all projects sometimes it will get stuck, since it's BOINC you can add more project so that if one is down something is still working away - no wasted cycles (in theory!)q

BOINC has gotten a lot nicer since it first came out :p

I'm using BAM! (http://boincstats.com/bam/) as my BOINC account manager - makes it a lot easier to manage boxes that aren't at the same place (or lots of boxes)...not sure if anyone else uses it but can recommended it over just using the standard account manager :)

In terms of Aqua, switched to 100% for the next week or so to help try and regain #1 :p

Moogie,

I went to the Boinc site, installed a Boinc thinc, selected Aqua and it started quickly.

It leaves a little icon on the desktop. I had to do nothing. Couldn't be easier.

Crazy!

It helps build something to do with quantum computing. Don't ask me.

yeah BAM is easy to use just need to setup an account which it helps you do - use this url boincstats.com/bam when you select "attach to an account manager" otherwise it don't work - I erm disconnected mine a few months ago and forgot to reconnect so I know it's easy enough to do just needs the right url.. if you put that url into a browser it redirects to bam home page which is a different url.

I see on the Aqua forums this is correct - new batch is around 10 hours...might be an issue for some as Aqua doesn't do checkpointing atm.

Also saw they were saying that there may be some WUs coming that take a day or so to do :looney:

I'm just dipping in for a couple of work units between other work. I'm not sticking around but might return in a few weeks.

Shish
01-03-2009, 04:11 PM
OK I'm in with both Aqua and Nqueens on 1 dual for now 'til I get the other dual sorted. Got a couple WCG units still to finish and also running F@H on the gpu.
On other news, got the house to ourselves now as the son and his pooches have moved out (again) so hopefully less work cleaning up, especially the filters to get rid of doghairs !!!
I'll probably get another dual AMD 939 4400 on the go when I dig it out and re-case it from the mess that was my office (2nd bedroom) and recently housed my son and 3 dogs.
Waiting a while till I do my upgrade to the new board cpu etc. until I see what happens with prices as the washer dryer has gone kaputt with worn/seized bearings and a consequent burnt out motor as well. Still, the sales are foing strong so that should only cost half the price of a new rig.

Good to see you Shish! How does it feel to be son and poochless? :)

I've got some pretty big ones running right now (high priority-what is with those?), and some waiting to report.

All good. :)

alpha
01-03-2009, 06:28 PM
I believe high priority just means BOINC will give those jobs more than their allocated time share if necessary to get them done before the deadline. You usually see this on work units with short deadlines, or ones which you've left until they are close to the deadline.

You can get the "Ready to report" WUs to go by mashing the "Update" button on the Projects tab. Otherwise they will wait around until BOINC decides to it's darn good and ready.

Thanks for the tip Angus, I was wondering why it took so long to update.

01-04-2009, 05:59 PM
I keep getting it running out of work. Then to add insult to injury you hit update and messages say "Reporting 0 tasks, Requesting 0 new work" Stupid Bonk is bonkers. Doesn't it know I've got no work left. Even a reset project doesn't always work. I had to do a full detach tonite. Grrrrh. Why can't these programs just work without having to babysit and molly coddle them :swear::swear::haddock::bang::bang:

Go to their website and configure your project settings.
Set it for 1 days worth of work instead of the default of .25 days worth. :)
or up to 10 days worth of work. ;)

pfb
01-05-2009, 04:30 AM
Both Simap and Rosetta seem to be out of work so most of my crunching is back on Aqua (with a smidgen on NQueens).

Is there any other protein-related BOINC projects out there?

alpha
01-05-2009, 05:37 AM
Most of the other protein related BOINC projects are out of work, or just down in general. POEM@home (http://boinc.fzk.de/poem/) still seems to be up and running though. Also, WCG might do some protein stuff but I'm not sure.

pfb
01-05-2009, 07:57 AM
Must've missed that one when looking through earlier :looney:

Added it in so should get some WUs going through for at least 1 of the protein projects :)

BAM is very handy (I find) if you have lots of boxes to manage - can add projects, change resource %age and drop projects from a single box...depends how many projects and boxes you run as to it's usefulness...

gopher_yarrowzoo
01-05-2009, 04:25 PM
BAM is fine when your BOINC client listens to it properly
I had it set to give Priority to something not Aqua but NQueens (well I'll give it a blast through)
NQueens - 600
Rosetta - 200
AI - 200
on BAM!

Mine said

Nqueens -600
Rosetta - 800
AI - 200
now i changed this to 600/300/300 and it worked yet Rosetta was at 600 before so it should have changed just something to note...

It is a bit annoying (to put it mildly ;)) that there is no checkpointing - especially when there are WUs coming out that take half a day (or longer)...

Somebody tell us when they add checkpointing please.

gopher_yarrowzoo
01-07-2009, 03:39 PM
When they figure out how to read / write a q-bit correctly I think.
It's no doubt on the list - Imagine a project with out a in unit checkpoint!
I mean feck even Seti @ Home the old, old version had logging / checkpoints...

Server Status: http://aqua.dwavesys.com/server_status.php
From their home page: http://aqua.dwavesys.com/
AQUA@home's latest results are available
13-January-2009
After lots of number crunching, we now have the results for 96-qubit problems. Please click on the "See the results of your computations" link to see how the minimum energy gap is scaling with the problem size. The verdict is that so far the running time of the adiabatic algorithm is linear with the problems size.
