I have an Athlon XP1900, 256mb of Ram dedicated to Prime, 24 hours...
What work would make the most sense?

I think supp has helped us out before using the free-dc name, so I am going to take a gander and say you wanna crunch a little for TPR?

Well theres 3 types of work!

#1 Factoring -

Current Ranking: http://mersenne.org/primenet/ftop100.txt
Overtake reports: http://www.teamprimerib.com/rr1/topover.htm

Factoring completly rocks on AMD processors, I put everything that I have on factoring that isnt a P4. The best part about factoring that I like is "you can find factors", they become your personal treasure chest of distributed computing finds.

#2 Lucas-Lehmer (LL)

Current Ranking: http://mersenne.org/ips/tops.shtml
Same overtake report (top section)

This work is optimized for the P4's giving a 2-3 crunch advantage over the AMD's. The AMD's still kick butt but the P4's are king here. These could take up to 10 days on a machine like yours, maybe ever more. But in the end you could find a "prime" and also get about 1.5 years of credit for the team.

#3 Double Checks (DC)

Minature LL tests, these have already been crunched once and are being crunched again for validty. All LL tests are doublechecked, the double checks are much smaller (as they were crunched the first time some time ago). 4-5 days here.

The stats for TPR are excellent, expect that they are down right now due to a password issue and havent been updated since yesterday. We have added about 40 machines in the last 24hours due to Eccp ending. And we should be #1 in LL/DC testing sometime between late spring and early summer. Would love to see your name on our list of people that helped us out!

would be example of your user info.

I will post in the Ars forum (family trip all weekend) that you are requesting help, as we would love to help even if your not apart of our team. Sorry it took me 20minutes to post a response ;) the other day on a new Prime thread 5 different Ars TPR people posted within 1-2 minutes, were a weird bunch.

Thanks for the reply!
I have a check mark in the box called
"Request Mersenne numbers to factor"
Is this correct?
Can I just copy the entire prime95 directory to another computer and fire it up, or do I have to do something extra?

Sorry for being 'dense' and a newbie ;)

Copy works fine

A couple things that you may or may not use

What I do for deployment, is unzip the install files on to my server. Create a c:\prime directory, copy all the files from the server, run prime95 and setup what work you want during the install, after installation and while its running, advance->password-> 9876. This unlocks a few options.

Options->preferences Set days to send in new end dates to 1, howerver your machine will go so fast that it may do one a day.

Options->click on no icon, if its windows the software will autoload as a service. Works like a charm, I can go around setting up full installs on my machines in about 1 minute.

This client is teh best! It almost to easy!

IB: if you want to copy an active client you can do so. On the new box, delete worktodo.ini and change the machine id in the test / user info menu.

whilden's post is more of a method of mass deplyoment on a network. He copies the executables and then installs the machines individually.

Thanks for the FAST responses!
I have TWO clients, both AMD and windoze -- doing Factoring.

Box #2

21097421 F 57 0.0 3.0 61.0 25-Oct-02 21:05 Free-DC_IB-2 1529 v19/v20
21097547 F 57 0.0 2.0 61.0 25-Oct-02 21:06 Free-DC_IB-2 1529 v19/v20

21097957 F 57 0.0 4.0 61.0 25-Oct-02 21:23 Free-DC_IB-2 1529 v19/v20

IC a problem with this one, seems like you have two installs!, you may want to check the worktodo.ini in the prime directory added the ones that are missing from above. And then advance->manual communication->send new dates (check)->okay to tell the server the new completion dates.

good luck finding a factor

Box 2 = Free-DC_IB-2 :)
At least they are showing up now.
Xyzzy showed me the err of my ways ;)

So, has Free-Dc teamed up with TPR in attempt to take the lead on this project or what? I was a tad confused, because our link on the site for this project went to the TPR page

TPR is not affiliated with any one tech site.
So rather than start a new one here, I thought it would be ok to join in the fun over there. :)
Come on in, the water's fine :D

Can you fix it? I've stopped and started the client many times, re-booted the computer even
(always fixes everything right? ;) )

I'm gonna stick over at Neo and makes sure we're producing some kind of numbers so if Free-DC decides to compete in it, we'll have a starting point.

When I rummaged through my room, I discovered ACER P4/2Ghz notebook (for studies) and because it's not good in anything else, I started to run GIMPS (and even found out that I've one assigned expomemnt I don't know about...
