HELP: Need information about "Amertek E24 Hub".

I'm in college for work and we have a project that involves an "Amertek E24 Ethernet Hub". The instructor is requiring that we find the manual for it online and he insists that this manual does indeed exist.

Welp, for the past 2 weeks in class NO ONE has been able to find it. Hell... there doesn't seem to be an Amertek around. The only around by them seems to be a PCI network card and that's it... no hubs by Amertek.

So... has anybody ever heard of this hub? I know alot of you have worked in the industry a long time so I'm hoping someone can help me out. :D

p.s. We may also use the manual from the E16 but again, no information seems to exist for it.

Are you sure it is an "Amertek"? Have you see the physical device or see any other serial numbers or anything?

I can find Lucent/Alcatel SH-E24 Hubs (http://www99.shopping.com/xPF-Lucent-Cajun-SH-E24-108445941).

You going into telecoms Jeff?
Far as I remember, Ameritech is part of the Bell South, A T&T or even the parent company of the conglomerate and they do have something to do with exchange signalling network hubs and switches but not the normal network stuff or computers. Only other Amertek I remember is/was part of China Computing or some such and had a spares place in Hong Kong and Nan King.Was a long time ago so memory may be a bit vague.
Only major gear we handled was Nortel, Ericson, BT, Cisco, Big Iron and similar and manuals were never a problem.

Wow, wealth of information here, thanks all!!! :cheers: We have class again tomorrow so my group will be looking into every little nugget mentioned... hopefully we can get something going.

@DP, the serial number and model number on the back is worn down. I thought I could see the model number but nothing was found regarding what I thought it was. I also tried some other guesses and nothing. :(

@Shish, I work for Verizon now but they have an extended learning program where you go to college one day a week for 4yrs to receive a 2yr "degree" in telcommunications. I say "degree" because it is something that Verizon actually put together and it will not transfer as a whole anywhere. ;) But, it is a little more pay, plus you get paid for the day you go to school, plus at the end of the program you have the chance to buy the notebook you were given at the beginning of the program for $50(it's a Dell D820 so I'm all for that!).

Good for you Jeff. I did the Cisco and Nortel plus most of the Microsoft stuff all in one go at a specialist college attached to a Uni for the disabled but I had a head start and originally was going to join Telewest but changed my mind because they wanted me to do all their telecoms stuff before they were going to pay me so I went elsewhere and did better anyway cos I got rapid promotion and seniority and because I was an older "wiser head?!!" I got on very well till my health fell apart again. Thoroughly enjoyedmy last few years tho' especiallygoing back to college "again" (3rd time....glutton for punishment me LOL ) and I found it a lot easier than some but we did live there and do it near 7 days a week!!!!
Cisco/Nortel and most of them quals all have to do requall or move up every five year or so, so not much different and once you've got a bit of practical and the "language" down they're all very similar. I had to take half of my original class through basic electrical and electronic theory bits and hardware signalling stuff as I was a bit better qualified than the instructor but my sticking point was frame relay and subnets till one of the more brilliant guysfigured out a new way to do subnets which I later promptly forgot....:blush: But he had been to Frisco for some cram schools.
Anyway, some guys I put through it on day release later on said it was harder doing it that way than full time and I tend to agree.
Anyway,glad we could help even a little and don't be a stranger. Unfortunately, being a druggie nowadays (prescription only of course) and gettin older don't do much for the memory in my case but I'm near sure the info was somewhere close but it's in the far distant pass for me and not exactly my field.
So now for a complete change.... off to fix a rabbit hutch for the "little blondey tart" :eek: otherwise known as the grandaughter :clap:.
