Hey IronBit...or anyone else close enough that would like to compete. How about a race back to the #20 spot overall seeing how I lost it and now I'm determined to get it back.

Oh yeah...forgot you already had a race over in DF :notworthy

I was just sticking my nose where it didn't belong. ;)
I got a little upset with all the many hours it took to continuously do manual uploading. Then I saw they added two more Servers and adjusted the timeout to more than just 4 at a time, that or the traffic let up enough for the client to upload 7,000+ points, but only got credit for 6,000 ish, so I put all the offline.dat files into one huge one and let it go thru again just in case I missed one.
I'll try to keep you honest for awhile tho ;) :D

Damn these stats! I can't get to em to see if I'm chatcing up to you! Last I checked though, we seemed to be catching up with the Neo Development Team. Techimo seems to be out crunching us heavily.

You guys just passed Neo Development team, as I was watching (read, I have too much free time)

I am waiting for the DPC to do a giga-flush, and pass XDC, and into a uncontested first place

And on a celebratory note:

I found a borg!

AMD 897 MHZ

It won't update past .400, but it has submitted a bunch of workunits, so I am not worried yet!

Now ARS is in place 30!! and ever-rising

Well, damn....IronBits is 5 posistions ahead of me, but only 300WU's or so seperate us.

1 IRONBITS 8,142
2 MAGNAV0X 7,867

I was planning on flying by IB today with a few borgs I added, but I had to shut them down and I'm not sure if I'm still catching up :bang: Damn him and his AMD boxes, I realy do think the project is more efficient on AMD processors. He's got 3 AMD boxen spanking :spank: all these P4's I have. Looks like my sneak attack was foiled once again  Good job IB! Don't let your guard down though :haddock:

At least we passed The Neo Development Team in the midst of our action today. Techmo stopped pulling away from us and I believe we are catching up again  #6 here we come!

Just got myself into 6th place within the team.

Am just wondering if any of you all are having difficulties flushing your queues? I had to re-connect so many times just to flush over 1000+ units and it took me almost an hour. :bang:

PY 222, yes that is the downfall for a large que of WU's. The client times out a lot. Did you happen to have version .407? They added support for a few more servers in that version to help with uploading large ques. I still had the same problem pretty much with it, but it does help. I didn't want to mess with ques, so I finaly decided to just have it connect after each completed WU (to my dismay though...because it cuts back on crunch time that way).

Doing my teeny weeny bit for Free-DC

I see it as a big bit for Free-DC. I realy appreciate your support on this project. As you can see, we don't have many active members in this project, because it's only been around for a few weeks. You're extra WU's are helping us catch team Techio

Well done IB! I'm currently trying to get into the top 100 :notworthy

Currently holding onto the number 4 Free-DC spot, which I sneaked into a few days back :D

But all you guys above me seem to have more MHZ to throw around :scared:

Looks like we might be creeping up the team ranks through :|party|:

Last night I saw the client upload a wu/point, and then kept going round robin with all the servers, with 0 cached units, for a minute or so, until it finally got timed out, then went back to work :(

Rus6, you better watch out dude. You Pentium machines are no match for the Power of AMD :|punch|:

Just included my BIG IRON into the fray.

I noticed that Pentium machines are extremely slow in processing work units as compared to Athlon machines.

Are you guys noticing this as well or am I just dreaming this up to screw around with Intel? :smoking:

I noticed that Pentium machines are extremely slow in processing work units as compared to Athlon machines.

I've come up with the same conclusion. As you can see, my intire borg farm consists of P4 1.5 ghz machines. Even with all those P4's I can't seem to catch back up with IB's 3 AMD machines. Though my borg farm isn't 24/7...they are only available for about 12 hours a day. I still feel I should be flying up in the stats with them though. My only AMD box happens to be the slowest machine of my nodes, notching in at 1084 mhz.

P4 1.6 ghz completes a WU in 2 minutes
AMD Duron 1084mhz completes a WU in 4 minutes.

I don't know how quickly a Athalon close to 1.6 ghz will complete a WU in.

How are you basing the minutes by? Do you use the "Current Packet Time" in the NEO client?

Well, if you are comparing it like this, I would say that my Athlon MP1900+ @1.6GHz would be doing a workunit in 1 minute + but definitely not even 1.5 minutes.

I will time the next workunit when I get home and post my results. I know it will not be as accurate compared to a benchmarking tool like what they have for Distributed Folding but it should help to know how fast each processor can do a workunit.

Btw, are the workunits equal or do they vary? Please comment!

magnav0x

From what I hear, all WU's do the same ammount of calculations, just with different numbers. I base the time on "Current Packet Time". I leave it minimized until I see that it's at 100% then quickly bring it up to get the time. The only problem is, there is no seconds indicator. So 2 minutes can be 2:01 or 2:59 .

It's very apparent that the AMD are much more optimized for this project than the P4's if you are running it less than 2 minutes with your MP1900 chip. Then again...my P4 1.6 that I'm benchmarking is a mobile processor....so that may have some effect on the crunch speed. I don't know a lot about P4 Mobile chips, but I assume they are not as strong as a PC chip.

All mine were finishing in just a tad over 2 minutes.
If you watch it as it goes along, it hits 1 minute almost at the 50%,
When it hits 100%, you count to 10 or less and it will finish the work unit and it upload it.
When it starts the next unit, it always starts with 5%.
I'm not sure exactly how you can hit 100% and still have to crunch another 5-10 seconds tho. :)
I just watched my client start, finish and upload all before it said 2 minutes. :D

I finaly got around to disabling all those "fancy" Windows XP looks on my AMD Duron machine and that put it right about 3:50 per WU. Real close to 4 minutes. Sometimes it'll complete in 3 mins and sometimes, just over 4 minutes. As soon as my g/f gets off my lappy, I'll see how much effect it has on my P4 1.6 chip. I don't think it'll put it under 2 minutes though. It seemed like it was taking well into the 2 minute range to complete them.

I'm going to talk to Mike about the optimized client....maybe it working ok with AMD chips and not the Pentium chips. Or it could just the a calculation advantage that AMD chips have....I haven't kept current with the calculations rates of the newer processors.

While you are at that talking to him about how to optimize the client, could you please please ask him to do something regarding the servers.

Its killing me here that I will have to sit down and manually sending workunits that aren't even going through. Its crazy:bang:

My home machines are piling up workunits faster than I can ship em out and I am on a DSL.

Please please please :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy

Speed wise my P4 client don't seem to bad just under 2 minutes on a P4 1.7, win2K.

A WU takes around 3 Minutes per CPU on my dual PIII 866

I've got work stacked up through and can't send it in :swear: , I wonder if they could do a bulk upload facility, fixing the dual CPU problem would be great as well
