Well guys, I have finished flushing my queue and although I have lost a 1000+ offline.dat file, I still manage to crawl on to the Top 100 list.

With that, I am ahead of Rus6 (How is the view Rus6? ):jester: Looks like the race will be rather tight....

Also, FREE-DC is now 5th, thanks to my tiny flush

4 BYTE LAB 41,558 0.5072
5 FREE-DC 40,144 0.2210
6 DELTA FORCE 40,009 0.3255

Now onwards and upwards....

:swear: I noticed you go flying past ; I've been trying to flush units for the last couple of hours with no luck :bang:

Rus6, why don't you send me your offline.dat file and let me upload it for you.

That way, the packets won't go to waste right :jester:

But you have nothing to fear, I have depleted all the queues at home. Now, its time to flush the workunits at work.

It might come to that :(

I've got loads of units ready to go but I only seem to be able to send around 500 an hour; that's with a DSL line and constantly clicking send... :swear:

I did a little experiment using 10 queued workunits. Before I start, I check my Total Units Completed and the stats on the NEO project website.

So I have 4049 workunits completed. Now flushing 10 queued workunits will give me 4059 right. But no, after flushing, I only get 4052 Total Units Completed and it was the same on the stats page. So what gives? Where is my other workunits? :swear:

If this thing can happen to 10 queued workunits, there is no telling how many workunits might have been lost by the server.

I am not flushing my large queues anymore until the server situation improves.

Interesting I've been having the same thing happen to me, a lot of units going AWOL... :bang:

I wonder if the algorithm is not as random as it should be, hence the duplicate numbers are getting thrown out? Or maybe there's a lag in the stats?

Anyway I've nipped past you :haddock:

I think it's a client issue and not a server issue that is having the WU's lost. Just to give you an idea of how many WU's I lost during the beta stage of Neo...let's just say it was no less than 10000 WU's. I've stopped using the que option since I'm on DSL, and just have it upload after each completed WU. I know this isn't an option for dial-up users though. I would recommend ALWAYS backing up your offline.dat file before you try to upload the que. That way if you come up missing a lot you can copy the offline.dat file back to the neo directory and resend in attempt to get some of those corrupt packets accross. When I uploaded my 1000 WU que (the last que I attempted to upload) I lost about 100 WU's and I went back and tryed to resend the WU's last night and it was able to find 60 more WU's from the offline.dat that didn't get sent before. Just be sure to keep sending until your offline.dat reaches 0kb and ALWAYS BACK UP THE OFFLINE.DAT BEFORE SENDING YOUR WORK UNITS.

(note: it'll show there are 0 WU's qued, but as long as the offline.dat file is greater than 0kb then it has WU's qued.)

magnav0x, thanks for all the pointers but seriously, the NEO team has got to do something regarding this. It will get out of hand once this project attracts big teams.

On a side not, I think I might have just send duplicate copies of the workunits that I have uploaded but did not get credit for. Do the NEO servers have a check where it will discard duplicate copies? I do not want to be branded as a cheater later :(

Damn you Rus6 :swear: How on earth did you get so many workunits out your pipe? Ok, ok, you win.... I don't think I have so much time babysitting the client anymore! I wil just leave the queue until it piles up sky high.

Here is a beer on the Team for a job well done.

The P4 machine's at work stuck behind a firewall, so I mail the dat file to my home and upload it every evening, hadn't done it for a few days... Sorry :D

Rus6, I see that you are doing mighty fine on the stats. You are way way ahead of me.

I SALUTE YOU SIR

I guess you are the winner in this race. Me will try to get you at 10 000.

I have also come to the same conclusion regarding the missing workunits. It seems that the server will recognize workunits that did not get sent on the first try.

Now, my question would be that, is this ok with the NEO Development Group because we are technically sending the offline.dat file twice in order to get the workunits that were left out on the first flush.

How about that?

They seem to be fine with that - they weed out the accidental dups at their end.

I had some largish offline.dat files saved up when .407 came out. I did a fresh install of .407, copied the offline.dat into the folder before I started crunching, and let it go. Even though it only sent 3 or 4 WUs each time it finished a live WU, eventually the cached results all went up, and it looks like I got credit for almost all of them (wasn't really keeping close track of them during the BETA phase of the project). This assumes you have at least one machine crunching with a constant connection, and configured to sent each WU as it completes.

The Neo development guys are perfectly fine with you trying to upload the same offline.dat file multiple times. There server will not give credit for the dup entries that have been uploaded already. They are aware some packets get corrupt when going into the server and that people will want to reupload to try to get credit for all their WU's. We're working hard with the client to get everything ironed out. We're doing extensive testing on all changes Mike is trying out on the client and server side. We'll get it right soon enough

That was a nice close race to 5000. PY 222 came up pretty unsuspectingly to almost take it!

.....now who will be the next owner of the 3rd posistion on the team? Can Angus hold em off?!

But you are Tha Man... you deserved it. So have a cold beer, on me.

Now lets see who gets to kick Angus's big behind to get the 3rd spot :moon:
