Even more reason for me to finally give WCG a try, I've been meaning to for ages.

I'm going for my gold badge in this one. Got Gold in all the others that I could :)

Did 10cpu days of processing overnight, so it won't be too long :)

I'm also testing Drug Discovery@Home (http://boinc.drugdiscoveryathome.com/) so that's tying up some cpu's though..

Very topical. So does WCG just use BOINC or does it still have its own client too?

Just BOINC these days.

When I signed up yesterday, they try and get you to download what looks like a renamed version of BOINC, which is probably pre-attached to WCG or something like that. I just cancelled the download and attached with my current installation and everything was fine.

You have to sign up on the website first though, you can't do it through BOINC like with other projects.

yeah, it's a little non standard.

Good to know, I could see that having to download a "special" client might look like they are using their own client. Do you know if they have a 64bit Windows binary for the people with 64bit BOINC clients?

yup. They normally have binaries for most of the major distributions. I'm running that particular project on a variety of OS's including 64bit Windows 7.

Got my gold badge already :)

Got my gold badge already :)

Nice. So how much memory does each WU use for this project?

The ones I've been running so far have all used <100MB RAM per core.

I can't remember all the projects I selected, but it definitely includes: Human Proteome Folding, Influenza Antiviral Drug Search, Help Conquer Cancer, The Clean Energy Project.

Just finished my first Clean Energy Project work unit and the results were ~4MB to upload. If that's to be expected for every work unit, it's definitely something to bear in mind.

Ok, I have created an account, joined the team, and started crunching on this project. When I get a chance I will add a few more machines.

Has anyone else noticed this? I'm running BOINC 6.6.31 x64 on Vista 64bit and I have 4 influenza 6.04 processes running but my CPU meter is going crazy, it keeps jumping from 100% usage on each core to around 50% usage on each core, then up to 65%, then 35% then 100% so all over the place.

Is it just me, the version of BOINC or anyone have any idea what is going on?

^^^ Never mind, seems the BOINC default for this version is to only use 60% of CPU so it was bouncing like this. Once I set it to 100% its working fine now.

That's a strange default setting. I wonder why they deviated from 100% all of a sudden? Not everyone will have the competence to notice.
