through a proxy server, if so how do you set it up.

Short answer: no.

Long answer: yes, if you have/can get the Linux tool "socat" on the machine. It can be configured to listen on a local port, and redirect all communications on that port to a given destination via an HTTP or SOCKS proxy server. If this might work for you, I can put together some setup instructions.

Running Windows and don't want to get too involved in sockscap and that sort of thing.
