RC5-72 Clients have just been officially released. Check Bovine's .plan (http://n0cgi.distributed.net/cgi/dnet-finger.cgi?user=bovine) and the download-page (http://www.distributed.net/download/clients.html)

Wow... by my calculations, at this rate, it will only take 5059.02 (round) years to complete RC5-72. My smoothwall box is on it because I need something unobtrusive, and it works well. Here's to hoping it ends *long* before the Star Trek era....

Chalk up 800MHz for the Free-DC RC5-72 team.

Don't you mean 5059.02 years at the most? We (probably) don't need to check the entire keyspace to find the winning key, it could be found at any time, no?

Yea, of course "at most". That was the number displayed at distributed.net at the time I posted; it shows how long it would take to complete rc5-72 (test all the keys) at the current speed. Of course we could find the key at 1% searched. And without any doubt the project will get more and faster PCs than are now online.

Edit: ups, sorry, you ment dp; Nevermind, I guess what I've written is true anyway.

They haven't optimised the code yet either, the key rates are low at the moment

Once the optimised cores come out things the speed should pick up...

Wow, not optimised? Here I was thinking my dual AMD box was fast:

AMD chips don't seem to be suffering as much as the Intel and Apple chips...

Power PC 7400 G4 650 rc572 1,229,648
Power PC 7400 G4 650 rc564 5,674,284

Intel Pentium III 866 rc572 1,761,295
Intel Pentium III 866 rc564 2,475,617

The apple numbers are way low and the Intel ones aren't much better, all of the core code is C at the moment...

Your number's look great through!

My P4 1.7 knocks out 2.3Keys/s

Cool, so now's the time to get a head start if you have an small AMD farm ;)

Cool. In the 2 days since I posted this, the expected number of years is down to a lowly 4653.02 (round).

400 years in 2 days. Sounds like a winner to me ;)

Hrm, 3 days, more years. That means we're up to 4669.02 years to complete. Seems like the project is already losing steam ;) which is good for us.

We're already 160th overall, and with the numbers that we're putting out just among the few of us that are here, that's not too bad ;)

 /me jumps up and down:cheers:

Lookit what we did today! (12/31) :|party|:

33rd in production (3033) , and less than 200 blocks behind ars (3199) in production:moon:

and I found my NT4 box was running flat out doing nothing...
The service was started, and showing 99.x% CPU usage, but no output - been that way for over a day :bang: It's now running in the taskbar unti I can figure out what's wrong.

I have it running on two computers as of right now. I think I should be able to shell out the additional 200 blocks to get within firing range of Arse

Weee!

RC5-72 has 4393.09 years remaining.
RC5-72 has completed 0.0019333% of the keyspace.

300 years since the new year ;) Not too bad. But I think it could be better....

OOOOH! The stats look good today!

RC5-72 has 4260.93 years remaining.
RC5-72 has completed 0.00212186% of the keyspace.

And the Free-DC team is up 8 spots! However, the top 3 members of the team (me, IronBits, and TheOtherPhil) all dropped at least 50 spots in the overall.

I would like to congratulate IronBits for winning my smackdown. I knew I was slightly outmatched when I got into it, but I didn't think it would be by that much:notworthy :notworthy

Phil beat me pretty handily as well, but I gotta hand it to those two, they really showed me how it's done. Don't worry. the next time I challenge the team, I'll make sure I have something else to back up my claims.

Congrats to the winner, and thanks for the run. I think I'll stick with d.net for a while, see if I can't tweak some machines to get better performance out of them. I oughta be able to break 500/day. We'll see :moon:
