View Full Version : GA-7VAXP and XP 2700 or XP 2800?

I need to know if my Gigabyte GA-7VAXP mobo will work with either an XP 2700 or XP 2800 CPU? The mobo specs say "up to" XP 2600, but I figured this is because 2700 and 2800's were not on the market yet when the mobo was first made???

Anyway . . .it runs DDR at 333 MHz, but my XP 2200 CPU only runs at 266 MHz. My DDR is GEIL Ultra 333 MHz and I want to run my memory at 333MHz instead of the OC'd 138 MHz it currently runs at.

Thanks,

Jammy

It should work just fine, Jammy. I actually just bought another one of those exact motherboards today (I already had one). I haven't decided what processor I'll put in it, but it'll probably be an XP2800. If I have any problems with it, I'll let you know...

Thanks Paratima! The Gigayte mobo has a real neat utility for flashing one's BIOS. I have never tried it but it should be a cinch.

Jammy use the BIOS update and you will be able to run Bartons on that board. I think the most recent bios is F11
BTW I have one which I'm running my xp2400 on. Its a real nice board.

Hey DG! Whatcha doing here, lol?

Why do I want to run a Barton? My XP 2600 is quite fine. Uh . . .I run an XP 2600 w/ 512 megs of GEIL Ultra DDR 333 MHz on that board! I only go into the BIOS if I really want to set my OC's. Anyway . . .I am kinda p*ssed off at the Gigabyte GA-7VAX board because I have to set the CPU and it will not let me set it higher than 12.5X and I cannot raise the multiplier in the BIOS! My old XP 2200 ran at 13.5X.

I can raise the multiplier in the BIOS of my Soyo SY-K7V very easy but I run my XP 1900 only at 11.5X with a fsb of 138 right now.

An XP 1900 at 11.5, an XP 2200 at 13.5X and an XP 2600 at 12.5X? Something is wrong here????

If you want to run 333mhz you are going to have to make your changes ith the dip switche [SW1]

Read the manual

I did not set my dip switches for my 333 but for my CPU as the GA-7VAXP does not allow one to change the multiplier in the BIOS like my ASUS and Soyo mobos do. But my CPU would not run at anything higher than 12.5, but that is OK with me . . .my GEIL Ultra DDR OC's and I run it at 173 fsb. I tried several different settings and it would not boot at higher than 12.5 . . .maybe I got a lousy CPU? I bought the retail boxed and it has a three year warranty against defects.

Maybe there "is" something wrong with it because three or four nights ago my MBM started sending off alarms and it said that my CPU temp was something like 179+! I turned off my box and let it sit for abaout 45 minutes and then restarted it. All of my OC settings were gone as were all of my passwords stored. I thought possibly it was because I was testing the new Seti 3.08 CLI and possibly it was that. I am using the 3.03 CLI again . . .I have quite a few of them stored up. It was that or the fact that I also run SOB with Seti.

I have not had any temp issues since I changed back to the 3.03 CLI and I once again am running SOB with my Seti.
