I've been attempting to load Linux on my Xbox for the last few weeks. The cheap thompson dvd drive in the xbox is having major problems reading my media though, so I'm gonna have to bust the box open and temporarily hook up a PC dvd drive to install it...then I'll get some extra crunch power going.

I read somewhere that X-box's read CD-RW discs much better then CDR's, might be worth a go..

rus6 is right, CD-RW are usually read better then CD-R's. Also different brands or media are read better then others.

The biggest problem is that you got stuck with the Thompson drive :( They are the worst out of the bunch :(
