Hello,

the new rsa factoring challenge has just started: RSAttak576 at www.rsattak.fr.st
The same key than theneoproject but not same about the factoring algorithm ...

For the moment, the RSAttak client, run only under Linux and other Unix systems...

The project will be soon available on DC Repository ...

Thanks

Wait a minute!

Didn't we just got out of The Neo Project?

Is this the same thing or are we looking at a totally different project?

Kindly elaborate more before we start throwing GHz on your project!

We pulled out of Neo because of the X-Box Challenge. The RSA-576 challenge was what they originally took on which Free-DC happily contributed to until the X-Box Challenge arose.

The key has to factorize is the same one as that of Neo... (see http://www.rsasecurity.com/rsalabs/challenges/factoring/RSA-576.txt) The attack algorithm, different from that of Neo, is faster... Architecture client/server is functional...

I work since 1999 on factorization algorithms and I always made my tests on the RSA keys of http://www.rsasecurity.com. After the 512 bits factorization, my tests of algorithm were made on the 576 bits... When I saw the birth of project NEO, I was turned sour a little, and I have to decide to implement my algorithms to distribute calculations and to double NEO. I regard my work like a mathematics project or of cryptography project... I does not want to use the "Net power" to cracking projects ...

I might give it a try if there were a FreeBSD or Win32 client.

I requested that a team name "Free-DC" be created.
Doesn't appear to be too English friendly on the registration page. :(
I think I registered, just waiting on the confirmation I guess...

Here is the FAQ page in English http://rsa576.d2g.biz:8080/en/faq

We need a French interpetor ...

http://www.aspenleaf.com/distributed/ap-crypto.html#rsattack576
RSAttack576, is a distributed effort to solve the RSA 576-bit challenge and win a $10,000 (US) prize.
The user who finds the winning key will receive $2,000 (US), and the user who processes the most packets will receive $1,000 (US).
The client is currently only available for Linux.
It does not appear to support users behind firewalls.
And it is not appropriate for dialup Internet users: it connects to the project server about every 50 seconds.
A future version will be more dialup-friendly.
The client is optimized for the AMD XP CPU.
Version 1.5 (stable) of the client is available as of February 17, 2003.

Who and how does one win the $10,000??
It says $2,000 to the person who finds it...

I got a message from the project that Free-DC Team was created :D

French to English on the Registration page.
I figured out
"Mot de passe *" means password
"Nom" = First Name
"Prénom" = Last Name
I assumed "Nationnalité" meant I should put in USA ...

orkblutt

yes:swear:
excuse me for the French pages... my english is not very sure :scared:
I have just translated the registering page into English....

Last Name & First Name are yours!!!

if you live in US your nationnality is US
:rotfl:

thanks Iron!!! (you have a nice Web site!! can you speak about RSAttak?)

I'm trying. ;) Client is straight forward. :)
Open a shell, I renamed my clent to RSA for ease of running
./RSA IronBits password -- takes right off with no problems.
It is consuming about 98% CPU now with no 'nice' settings being used.

I woke up this morning to the client saying the network was unavailable, and it was stopped :(
Network is available. I restarted it and see
status == -1 errno==104 in Socket::recv :(

Stopped it again, restarted it again, and I'm getting
Bad Authentication  :bang:

Anyone with a *nix box care to join me?
Just one would be fine... slow boxen with a little memory is fine.
Uses only 2,564kb of memory near as I can tell...

After I log in. I'm using the basic version on Redhat 8.0 (Pysche), running on AMD k6 2 -450

Any ideas?

I tried the Amd version as well, no joy either :(

This time it crashes straight after entering the password:

With the error "Illegal instruction"

I take it you don't have to wait for the project sign-up email to come through..

The box runs other projects fine, like OGR, SOB etc. So I doubt it's a client problem.

IronBits
03-02-2003, 07:17 AM
Yes, you do have to wait for the Email that says your registered.
I don't believe it's automated yet :(
I'll bet that's the problem! :bang:

Are there plans to have some kind of basic stats for each of the teams? So that each member can compare himself to his teammates?

Well, I see the clients hung during the night, which is worse than quiting because the network can't be found.
I Stopped and restarted and they just hung (*nix), probably Server is hung.
I put them back on folding for awhile.

To prevent server saturation by a great number of connect simultaneous and to will be a real big DC project, I am migrating the data bases and treatment on another computer. To do that I must re-examine the soft part server architecture to optimize treatments... The principal server thus will be cut... I think of being able to finish and test the new server in less than one week( I hope less...I think less..but I'm alone and i prefer say about 1 week)... I 'm installing a temporary server... but I do not think that it can support a great number of connect :ogl22

:notworthy please patience ...it's nothing one week:rolleyes:

I have been receiving emails from orkblutt at msn dot com over the past few days confirming user signups. In other words, I am somehow receiving other users logins and passwords. This has happened for the following users:

cyberneuil
BrenteR
Obi

You may want to change their passwords, or even better - figure out why I was sent their confirmation email :) (just noticed - those three users are all on the 'AMD Users' team, according to the email).
