Lots of work available for CUDA (nvidia cards) right now and VERY good credit. I did 142,000 points yesterday using a single GTX260.

I have the project preferences setup to ONLY do CUDA work.

ATI works too, though I think it needs an updated app_info file.

I was going to help out with the upcoming challenge but now I don't know.

This has truely been a black Friday.:hair:

It all started last Monday when I thought I would try some of the Cuda WUs. I used one machine, downloaded a bunch and promptly trashed all of them. I went to the Primegrid message boards but didn't see anything about this. I then did a fresh install of XP, latest drivers and Boinc. It trashed them again. After several messages it was revealed that you need .NET 3.5 or newer.

Today when I got to work I promptly downloaded the .Net file and burned it to a CD. I put the cd into the machine and started the installation only to have it fail. It said that I need SP2 or above for XP. I leave the automatic updates off so I clicked the update button. That is when it told me there are no updates for that machine.
That led me to the Microsoft website where I discovered that all support for XP SP2 and older has ceased. So I promptly downloaded SP3.

When I tried to install it I was told that I need to install SP2 first. Went back to MS and eventually found the complete (266mb) SP2 file. Downloaded and burned to CD. When I tried to install it I was told that my Volume License Key was invalid and it could not install. Next came a quick call to Microsoft where I was told we only support SP3. When I explained that I was trying to get to SP3, I was told we only support SP3. What a wasted call.

Next I broke out my Dotsch cds thinking I could run the challenge in Live CD mode. The 64 bit wouldn't boot and the 32 bit errored out after selecting Live cd mode.
Its been one of those days.

Do you think using the CPU would slow down the GPU?

I'm running 4 Eon wu's on the cpu but allowing the gpu wu to get it's share of the CPU it needs which seems to be 0.82, I'd guess if you alter this in the app_info file it would slow it down.

Do you think using the CPU would slow down the GPU?

That depends on the CPU. I have a HD48xx running on a Semp. 2400. If I run projects on the CPU the GPU credit is reduced by more than I make on the CPU. On a quad or better it should not be a problem. My advice is to experiment. Try it both ways and see how much difference there is. Then you can decide which way you want to run it.

There maybe hope yet. It seems that Laurenu2 may have come up with a solution to my problems. Testing will begin in the morning and if everything works right I'll have all nine GTX260s munching PG by Friday.:eat: Then I'll work on the ATIs next week.

Thanks for the help Laurenu2.
:allhail:

I'm not even gonna challenge you to the challenge.:moto:

Bok, if things go as I expect, about Sunday you'll want to move to the side of the road.http://bestsmileys.com/cars/8.gif

Looks like they are very close to getting the ATI version working 'out of the box' so you may be playing catch-up soon hopefully.. !!!

Looks like ATI cards are working natively (http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=2834) Perhaps just a project reset will do it. Who wants to try one ?

It's not quite ready yet.I put a 5850 on it and it downloaded 15 ATI WUs. Each one ran for 2 seconds and errored out. This is the same problem reported in the thread at Primegrid.

OK, I've cracked the code on this one.

It is not connect and go.:hair:

It is not plug n play.:hair:

It is a royal PITA but it doable.

The following is a list of what you will need to have installed to run it on XP. Other flavors of Windows may have different requirements.

.NET 3.5
XP SP3
Catalyst 10.10 (apps) This is not the standard driver and is required for the OpenCL
AMD Stream SDK 2.2
Boinc 6.10.58 (I couldn't get it to run with 56.)

I have it running on a HD5850 and run times seems to be about 27 minutes or about the same as my GTX260s.

He brought me one of these.

It is now happily munching :eat::eat: away and should result in a nice increase in the numbers.
