If you are looking for stats of members within the team, they don't exist as such. Someone would have to pull the individual rankings (available as text or XML), and parse out all the FREE-DC team members.

Team Rank can be found here:

Actually you don't... I now have all boxen pulsing under "the cygnussphere"handle @ position #55. I'm not sure why rshepard has so many differant listings. I did have the cygnusx1 handle but changed it.

I have run both the nix and windows clients (command line and gui). I also run the peer node monitor a must for telling if anything is happening. So if anyone needs help both rshepard and I could work with ya. Also Carlos Justiniano "project coordinator" has been helpful. Do also have an extensive form area as well.

I'm not sure why rshepard has so many differant listings.

Well, I originally had a listing as a seperate team- and I wanted to see how the different boxes performed, so I set them up w/ different names. Because the stats are user-based, I didn't try to change things when I rolled the boxes into the Free-DC team, so as not to lose the work.

One thing that needs to mentioned (correct me if I'm wrong rshepard) is that not all jobs submittted to your boxen get excepted back at the server. If the job you run is duplicated buy another box the first one in is the one excepted.

So you can't figure on structures/min /hr /day kind of stats. Its seems to be more random then that.

Ahhh..good answer. :D Just read the FAQ about losing work if the user name changes. ;)

One other question comes to mind...why all the "Job aborted at request of server." messages? I seem to have more of these than the "Job submitted." messages, are these "bad workunits"?

I guess that answers that then...your last post that is.

The whole redundancy system is in a state of flux, I believe. At one time they were sending a given job out 16 (!) times,. Then they pruned that back quite a bit, as a test. I'm not sure how many duplicate jobs are being run now; but it seems to be necessary to make sure that the searches get run properly.
There was some talk at one time about a system of sending fewer redundant jobs to what were referred to as "trusted" clients--basically if your client was online steadily for a long enough time, it became more "reliable". Not sure if this ever went beyond the talkng stage though ....

cygnussphere
05-12-2003, 10:12 PM
I'll have to dig into the form to see if there is more info regarding the job queing.

Beyond
05-12-2003, 10:43 PM
I have now noticed that there are times when the client is sitting idle (5,10 20 mins at a time), almost as if there is no more work to be done, or is it due to not being able to connect to the server for more work?

I'm sure I will be able to think of more questions sooner rather than later. :)

rshepard
05-12-2003, 11:16 PM
The idle times are pretty normal, from what I've seen-- I think most of it is the delay as positions are evaluated, waiting for the opponent's response, and sending the new jobs out. There are times (mostly between games) where the lag can be even longer. That's why you want CB to run in tandem with another project- it'll "get out of the way" while idle, releasing the CPU cycles for other work.

Well I had two Celeron 1.4ghz machines running eon in tandem with DP to try to make a run on the #10 posistion, but EON rolled back the stats and we lost about a week or two worth of work, so I've decided to move those two machines over to Chessbrain's 2nd stage.

BTW, you guys need to update your info on the Free-DC Super Computer page so we know what we got where :D I'm the only one with boxes on chessbrain :Pokes:

The last time I checked you could only list one project per boxen? I'm running DF on all the boxen I have chessbrain on. Being able to run with another DC project is one of the main appeals it has for most of us. But DF is still the prioraty so that is what I listed on the FDCSC (http://fdcsc.dbestern.net/home.php).:D

If I have to choose I'll take stats being the ho that I am (not to mention something the project really needs). But I'll bet the dual project listing on the FDCSC (http://fdcsc.dbestern.net/home.php) would be easyer to implement.

Moogster... I am running CB with DF on every boxen I have. (CB only runs p/t) The only consiteration is the amount of memory your machine has. If its limited you will want to set the chessbrain client's memory use to a lower setting. When chessbrain pulses and DF is running and the two are using most of your memory your machine will slow down. I have cured this on all boxen buy installing 512m in all machines so I can run both projects at max memoery and still use any machine normally.

IB: If you want to verify that your boxen are pulsing install the peernode monitor (http://www.chessbrain.net/pnnetmon.zip ) and point your boxen at the monitor. You will see the pulsing stack up:thumbs:
