Primarily due to the efforts of Supp we are now in position #10.

Thank's!
New client should be released this week - I'll keep you posted.

If this means "version 5", I'll (re-)join the show!

Supp

It means just that! (or so it seems so far)

Supp

So, version 4.3 is OUT!

It focuses mainly on solenoid part of machine *again*, but new components should be added soon IMHO.

Sending of results is now even more simple and client SEEMS to be stable as usual (12 hrs so far...)

The new client something "we" need to install or is the old client we have been using still good?

Supp

Keep old one for now (week or so).

I'll let you know before new client becomes mandatory.

Thanks for the info Supp...continuing with the -nonetting for now then. ;)

Got tired of the old client and not being able to see the work I've been doing with the stats down so moved to the new client. I have funny feeling something is terribly wrong though, the client seems to build upto the 100kb level in the results file in < 24hrs, whereas the old client use to take days to reach that level. Have stopped it for now until I can find what I did wrong :(

Upon futher investigation all seems to be well and good on my end, however the automated stats are still down but Stephen has posted stats as of Sunday 6PM on the forums for V4.3 clients.

Version 4.3
Beyond[Free-DC.org]: 182 results, 6703.2 Mpts, best 0.418% muons
Supp[Free-DC.org]: 22 results, 792.5 Mpts, best 0.074% muons

Supp

Nothing wrong I think - this phase just started so it'll run quickly before it moves to higher muon %.

I'm running the new client on my P4 1.5 now; has run for 3 days now without any problems. I haven't sent in any results yet, I wait till the stats are okay.

Yea, Supp is right. Since the new phase has just startet, the results.dat (.dat, !) is (quite) empty, and so the transfer rates are quite low (1.5% is my highest up to now, but I have heard of results >5% at Team DPC). The old phase had results > 3%, and Stephen hopes to get results > 11% for this phase.

The second thing to mention would be: only the first of three (?) parts of the machine, the solenoids (and thus, only 200 ns (nanoseconds)) are simulated; the last phase also simulated the second part, some "bending thingy" (and thus simulated up to 300 ns). This results in higher transfer rates ((hopefully) 11% compared to 3%) and faster calculation.

Greets,
Wirthi

I sent in some results with the 4.3 client a few days ago but I didn't appear on the temporary stats. Not sure why. The first time I tried to upload the server rejected the results (mustve been before the servers were accepting 4.3 results). I anticipated this and backed up my results.txt before sending. I tried again a couple of days later and they were accepted, so I assumed all was ok. Perhaps not..

Hi, I think I read somewhere on MUON forum that bending chicane ("thingy" :D ) won't was removed from projected machine...

AFAIK it was removed in Version 4.3x, but will be part of the machine to be simulated in Version 5. I think that's what you read?

Well I write that last night and first thing this morning I have a discussion which changes the plan... Apparently the design has changed again (it no longer includes the chicane), but before I get onto that in v5, some...

 This?

Well, I could be wrong of course...

On the muon1-mainpage Stephen writes:

The bending chicane featured in versions 4.0-4.2x will be replaced by a linear accelerator and a muon 'cooling ring' in version 5.
So, no bending chicane any more, but another cool thingy :)

There is a new Update - v4.31b.

You should update your clients, especially if you have 4.31a running. Results of this client and probably of 4.31 will not be counted!

Wirthi

Good post, wirthi!

Maybe big pharmers (Beyond...) should start thinking about switching now...

Who me

:D I'm already running 4.31b, on one machine. Once we finish up the OGR-24 project and Stephen finalizes the client before adding more systems/support. Having said that, I like the stabilty, speed and small footprint of the current client.

Beyond

I wonder if these beta stats (4.31b) will survive the release of the new client (version 5)? Or are they going to disappear!

/edit/ well I guess that was a dumb question, if 4,4.1,4.2 are still showing....but with the new scoring system one has to wonder...

Drat...:swear: I've started getting "invalid page fault errors" today. After the second one I did a complete re-install, ran fine for about 2hrs before crashing again with the same error message. Took me by total surprize as it has been running fine upto now. Well will wait for the full version 5 client, for now the machine goes over to Seti.
