I tried IB, the Gromac's core crapped out on all but 1 system (75% failure rate is not a good thing) and I'm not sure it will last till the end of the run. The "Genome core" seems to be running well on Win and *nix boxes but from first observations they seem to be slower and lower scoring then the F@H workunits. :(

Try without the -advmethods switch. I did on one boxen that was giving me troubles (that POS we talked about last night) and it's still running.

With the team just hitting the top 40 overall in OGR-24 me eyes the need to help the OGR-25 team into the top 100 and regain the top 100 in RC5 again. So I think I'll finish up the ones running now and redirect my efforts back to Dnet where I promised earlier to help the teams into the top 100.

My earlier statment about the "genome" core being slower and worth less points seems to have been in error (sorry) I was confused as to which proteins/cores were which, It is infact faster by a small margin and the points scored (on the proteins I've ran) are comparable to the F@H Tinker core/proteins.

I shall return!

:bang: you to?
Anyone else want to jump on this 1 month long gauntlet that starts May 1st ???
Talking with Beyond in IRC tonight, he has decided to help out after all.
They have already started gathering stats for our Free-DC team, so it is nothing to have your name listed in the gauntlet.
A boxen here and there will add up folks.

Now where the heck did Condor get off to???

The rules

All participants are welcome to join,
This is a friendly competition between individual members of TER or [H]OCP (they will include other teams too if needed), not a competition between teams.
The object of the game is to crunch as many points between
May 1st 2003 0:55 PST and May 29th 21:55 PST.

To join in the fun, just post in this thread, the following information.
The 'handle' or nickname you use, which side you want in on, Ars or [H]OCP and I'll post for you in the appropriate Team's Forum thread for you.

I'll try to put something together on how to setup the client.

Wow, things are starting to liven up around here.

About a month back I setup two training labs (not really my job nor responsibilty) with the agreement that I could use the lab when no one was training. So I have about 30 1.7-2.0G celerys on this. Not the best machines for this project but I had to use them for something.

I watched them pretty closely for a week or two and did not see any problems. It seems to me that the Genome core is a little slower and the Gromacs a lot faster, but then that could just be the machines that I have running.

Irontbits - you can add me to the Gauntlet,

A bit of a misunderstanding you guys dont need to "join" the Ars side. Unless you wanna help us catch them for #1 ;)

This guantlet is a free for all battle, you find someone in your area and you beat them. Its always a good idea to pick a person from H, as it feels better when you destory their production on H's pet project.

DO NOT copy the files from one machine to the next
Each computer HAS to have it's own 'ID'.
To do it correctly, you can install it on the first computer, then copy all the files to a 'spare' directory. (use this to propogate)
To set it up on consecutive boxen, do the following
Run this command from a DOS box, in the directory where you put it.
Fah3Console -config -advmethods -local (if you don't do this, all computers will have the same ID!)
Handle: yournickname here
Team: 758
ComputerID: 1 thru 4 (I used 1 for all boxen) not the same as project computer ID!
when it asks to change the advance settings, answer yes
project: FAH
CPU percentage: 100 ;)
disable advmethods: no
when that is done (there are more questions, but obvious answers) you run it with the following commandline switches
Fah3Console -advmethods -local
now go get EMIII and watch it go :)

Guess that many of you are using text-client with an open window on your home farms. But if you need to run it as a service this is the only way to go, works well for dualies also.

Impressive!
I'd suggest using the -advmethods switch to get a few gromacs units. It may be because of the improvements to the core or simply a generous point value but they seem to yield much higher points per day than the usual Tinker units. YMMV
Cheers,
Marc

Ugh! EMIII is driving me up the wall. I tryed to configure it to monitor the 2nd machine that was running F@H, well it wouldn't update the status of the 2nd box, so I started screwing around with it....now it won't update the status of the box EMIII is running on! :bang: So I got F@H running in the background but can't see the status. I've tryed reinstalling EMIII, but still no luck. It shows a picture of the current protien, but no other info. :bang: :bang: :bang: Some one get me and advil.....or better yet bottle of rum!

Ok it'll update progress through the first frame....after the first fram it just stops giving status and eventualy says there is a problem with the client. I've tryed it on both machines and it does the same on both. Another thing I noticed when using -advmethods switch on my P4, it was taking 25 mins a frame, without the -advmethods switch it was 2 mins a frame?? Someone throw me a bone here.

I know my CPU usage shows 100%, but I'm still not convinced that it's actualy doing something. And I don't want to leave the machines random 1's and 0's that aren't going anywhere! BTW, I some how got lucky enough to grab the two largest protiens (credit wise) on the list :rotfl:

Beyond
04-30-2003, 09:32 PM
First off those really large proteins take some time to complete a iteration...I've seen the same behavior on xome of my machines using EMIII, I "think" EM expects the current iteration to complete faster than it actually does and gives the warning that the client has a problem when infact there is none.

Second EM, like SetiDriver/SetiSpy does not store the speed/history of the workunits, so has to run thru several iterations befor eyou get an accurate framerate/time to finish.

If you will look HERE (http://24.174.34.241:8181/allstats.html) you will see Boxen 25, it is a P4 2000 with a 16:27 framerate on one of the large proteins.

magnav0x
04-30-2003, 09:53 PM
Well one of the clients is updating Frames again (AMD 1800) and it's about 16 minutes a frame. As for the P4, it's running, because it shows 1 Frame complete now, but it's still now showing Frame progress which realy bugs me. I haven't a clue if the P4 is atualy doing anything, because when i check the "unitinfo" file it shows 0% complete after running for about 2 hours. I'll keep babysitting em and see if I can get everything worked out.

Just rebooted the P4 and now it's saying 1 hour per Frame lol. Somebody please shoot me :jester:

Check your NIC card. I had the same problem on one of my boxen. Altho I replaced the whole motherboard... yup, you get it soon. ;)
I found when I copied a large file via the network, like Windows 2000 SP2 (123mb or so), to the computer when I tried to install it, it said the file was corrupted... so, I tried to install it over the network (I know the file is fine) it got about 1/4 the way thru the unpack and failed, so... I attempted to copy SP3, as it was copying across the network, about 1/2 way thru the copy it rebooted!
:bang:

magnav0x
04-30-2003, 10:03 PM
Thing is...it's doing it localy. I installed a copy of EMIII on the P4 1.6 and let it roll. It looked great through the first frame. Once the first fram showed 100% complete it will just say there at 100% and not start over on the next frame. It's not a big deal, I guess I can just let em run and not check the stats (/beings twitching). EMIII seems to be working fine on the Athalon XP box now, so that can tide me over.

Oh yeah, I'll guard the last place posistion in the guantlet to protect our rears :jester:

At least the gauntlet will be good for our teams stats in the project
