Im thinking about expanding my impressive computer fleet of one and am looking for some ideas for a second CHEAP computer to buy. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Also, my computer knowledge is very limited so basically Im looking for something almost ready to go out of the box. This computer would be used primarily t run a dc client on.

As I was saying in the IRC, soloist, here is the link again, just in case!

http://www.building-your-own-computer.com/

The site gives you a step by step tutorial on almost all the basic parts of the machine and the instructions on how to assemble a computer.

A ready made box would cost alot more if your primary motive is only for DCing. You could save the money and buy two DCing boxes instead :D

Low cost systems... http://www.ussa.com:80/ussaonline/dept.asp?dept%5Fid=120

Add more RAM, throw linux on em...for a ready made system..I think the XP2200 system is a good value...others might know of cheaper systems.

[pharming on the cheap]

i just put together a biostar m7vig pro about $50. athlon xp 2400 about $100. antec mini case w/300 watt power supply $75 shipped. maxtor 40gb $60 after rebates. another 50 for memory. 'borrowed' cd rom from other machine to load operating system.

i get a lot of stuff at newegg.com. a lot of their stuff has quick and free shipping.

i could not put linux on this-seems to be because of cheap onboard video.

loaded windows oem from other machine. if you have to call microsoft to activate say you upgraded existing system etc.

was thinking about a kvm switch to share a monitor, instead i use this free program VNC http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/index.html

gives me 105,000 structures a day on current df project

spent all this because i read 'pharming on the cheap'. read at your own risk. but i have started learning about computers.
