I have added more boxen :D
That's right, the truth be told...

8.4 GHz here at home (one is a 1.6GHz XP)
2.4 GHz at my brothers
1.4 GHz at nephews
2.6 GHz at friends (one is a 1.4GHz XP)
2.2 GHz total at my nieces (by end of next week)
---------------------------
17 GHz total AMD loving on this project.

Now, it's up to the rest of you to throw in a boxen here or there, or convince your friends or/and neighbors to run this.

'we' can't save the world by ourselves, we need more folks to help pitch in!
If you are reading this, and you do not have any computers running a distributed client, please consider running this easy to run client now!
Need help? We have plenty of experts here to help you get started. It really is alot easier than you think.

I urge you to throw some boxes on this project, We CAN and WILL dominate DistFold - and quickly.

Tonight I added 6700MHz of modern horsepower.

Let's all push on DistFold. We are outproducing the leader now. With your help, it's just a matter of days until we pass them!

Be a winner. Be a part of a winner.

All my boxen are yours. (And a select few of my associates, most of whom (ahem) are aware of their donor status. ;) )

That's about 4.2 GHz. I can probably wrangle another 3-4 GHz on nights & weekends.

Here's what I have on DF.

Home
1700Mhz of Celeron power
880Mhz of Ultra Sparc IIi power
2633Mhz of AMD T-bird power
400Mhz of AMD k6-2 power
total 5613Mhz

Work
12862Mhz of Sun Ultra Sparc II power
933Mhz Pentium III power
total 13795 Mhz

That makes a grand total of 19408Mhz on Distributed folding.

If I had a Solaris 2.7 client I could add more sun systems.

#1 is an easily doable goal. All we need is some support from out group. Please put a box of two on this project!

Two things actually, first is that it didn't run at low enough priority and priority isn't adjustable when run as a service. That's supposed to be fixed RSN.

The killer is that about half the time it doesn't quit properly when the computer is shut down, leaving the foldtrajlite.lock file in the directory. On restarting the computer the service doesn't restart because of the lock file still being there, and orphaning the work that was done previously.

Another minor nit is that the service can't be renamed, so you can only run it once on a dually.

It's nice that it can be installed as a service at all, but the implementation is too broken to use in a fleet.

Howard knows about the problem, and basically said don't run it as a service if you're going to turn the machine off. Hopefully he'll figure out a way to get it working right.

I could probably work around the lock file with a touch of scripting, but the priority could be an issue. I'll have to try it out and see how it affects my systems...

Thanks for the response xj10bt, I can always count on you and guru to be thinking about things from the same angle that I do.

In the meantime, I've deployed it to about 12 systems and I'll probably add a few more tomorrow...

Don't worry - be happy ;) :D

Dyyryath - I don't think you should start working on a wrapper yet ;)

Howard has already fixed the priority issue - it will be in the next release.

He is currently working on getting the NT Service install to work properly.

If it goes as it has gone previously, he will have a fix out pretty soon :)

Now, how do I know all this?
That is a secret my friends - only available to TSF members ;) :p
