As we all know, the last client update didn't go well for Distributed Folding users. We'd heard some speculation that the problem was with the new .NET compiler that Howard & Co decided to use on this latest version. Now it's official:<br><br><table width="90%" border="1" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="1" bordercolor="#63635A" bgcolor="#E7E7E2" align="center"><tr><td style="font-size: 12px; font-style: italic;">I just wanted to mention that it is official. Our friends at NCBI have confirmed that there is a serious bug in the Microsoft .NET and .NET 2003 (both) compiler optimizers. They were able to construct a simple piece of code which, when compiled with optimization, produces incorrect machine code output. This was indeed the cause of the problems during the most recent changeover. Of course it is still our fault for not testing the EXE after the compiler switch so we can't shift all the blame to Micro$oft (but we will still shift as much as morally possible ) Linux: 1 Windows: 0 </td></tr></table><br><br>There are some guys in the forums who do development work with .NET who have asked Howard for more details on the problem since it might cause them problems in their own work. If this is of interest to you, you might keep an eye on <a href="http://www.free-dc.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3683">this thread</a> in the official forums.
