I just received an Asus mobo, an Intel i7-920 and Intel i7-960, PSU and graphics card from a very generous cruncher from the ArsTechnica (http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewforum.php?f=18) team.
With the donations I received last time around, I ordered today - 3xSamsung 128Gb SSD's, a new CoolerMaster HAF case and 8Gb Ram (already have another 8Gb), so I should be able to get this all up and running by next weekend.
I'll use the fact that it's a backup to migrate the database up to mysql 5.5 and then to MariaDB, see what the pitfalls are before doing the main one.
