That's a great idea, it's supposed to fly. I would be happy to bench test it on a G4 or two, no G5's here yet :(

Beta compiler? Don't think so, lets wait for them to debug it first. I have enough problems without buggy compilers (as we learned with .NET) :jester:

You don't have to release the client, just evaluate it's potential to see if it can be of use down the track, see if the compiler is as good as they claim.

I've got an 800Mhz G3 with 10.2.6 ready to beta test it.

Unfortunately we've only got one OS X box and I don't know how happily the IBM compiler would co-habitate with gcc, bt maybe in the future if we have time to play around with it..

IBM's compiler (xlc) installs in its own directory in /opt. As long as the directory is not in the search path, it should be fine.

A bump for investigating this further...

Is a re-compile that difficult or resource intensive? Any optimzation we can get is greatly appreciated on the user side as it makes our investment in power and hardware that much more fruitful.

To paraphrase Obi-Wan: 'If the codes as fast as he claims..we should do well"
