I have NO CLUE how accurate this is, but, I gleaned this from their forum.

This is based on averages for >10,000 timesteps, a bit crude because it compares
everyone equally, i.e. machines running only cpdn are compared straight across
with those that are sharing with other programs etc. But you can kind of see general
trends, Win2K seems to be quicker, perhaps there's less of a memory footprint with
it, so more memory free for cpdn?

I will need to look out some stats and post when I have time.

Meanwhile lets all have a cool beer from IB's virtual fridge :drink: , but remember not to have too much or you could land up doing something you will regret :slap: :p

Has anyone figured out how to run this on a duallie?

I can't seem to get registered on their forum to ask there....

The only suggestion I saw there was to run two installs under two separate logins under WinXP. That is waaay to hokey...

A couple of those boxes have less than a day's history, so they may slow down as they get further into the model.

A99--

Duallie operation is not possible yet with this client. LOTS of folks have tried all kinds of tricks.

Using VM (virtual machine) software has possibilities, but is not a free ($$) solution.

This forum article (http://www.climateprediction.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=388&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0) has the whole ugly story. Page 3 has the definitive answer from the project guy.

what kind of human being takes the time to create something like this then turns around and fails to include the simplest little thing like making it smp compatible?

any DC project that fails to include even the simplest consideration for other operating systems and dual processor configurations is the anti-project and will be the obstacle that keeps the true purpose of DC from reaching its true potential

its a sad day and maybe we should just turn off the power and shut the whole of DC down seeing now that it will always come up short and never succeed

maybe the next project should predict the future of DC but alas it would probably fail to include linux and smp compatability

what do you all think

er--

what did he say?

 :dunno:

The project folks are happy that they got the 500,000 lines of Fortran borrowed from the main-frame room actually running on a Windows box ! What with the old disk & memory I/O and usage models that was written for, I'm surprised that it works at all!

That must be some compiler to get all that down to a 3MB executable
