Is there anybody running the AMD-64 (or Opteron as they are essentially the same core) with a 64bit Linux distro? If so, could you please test the pre-release 64Bit optimised client and report on speeds etc?:

http://www1.distributed.net/download/prerelease.php

I am very interested in what a native 64Bit client will do for RC5 over running a 32Bit client on the AMD platform.

Thanks!

Well, haven't quite got round to installing a 64Bit OS but this is what my FX-51 is doing under XP Pro SP1:

Not too shabby for a uni-proc machine! (I forgot to mention I am running at 2.5GHz)

I've ran it for a while under Suse 64-bit. IIRC it was pretty good. I can run it again and give you some times if you like. It's on an opteron 144 (1.8Ghz).

*update* Ok, ran it for a while and got 6.5M keys/s for RC5

I ran it on Mandrake 9.2 RC1 64-bit OS
I downloaded and installed AMD x86-64/ELF v2.9007.486 2003-11-08
It's slower than the 32bit version...
32-bit = 7.5m/sec
64-bit = 7.3m/sec

Can't use the beta copy of windows XP 64-bit edition because there are no 64bit network drivers for 3com or the onboard NIC on the Albatron.

Check out www.planetamd64.com

There is a link to AMD64 Driver/App Database on the left hand side of the page. I also have an Asus K8V Deluxe, and I found drivers that work for me.

Good luck.

The page is slow, so be patient. :Pokes:
