Anybody know of a good, preferably free, tool for ripping dvd. Last night i used dvd decrypter but it does not shrink the files. Need something that shrinks the files, and what else? change to mpeg?

thanks

I use a program called "DVD Shrink". I have had no problems making backups of my latest DVDs and it shrinks the contents down. It allows you to determine which parts are to be compressed (menu, movie, extras) aswell as option to omit the additional languages. Oh and the other good thing its FREE :).

You will find the program, plus some info here (http://www.dvdshrink.org)

One thing I did find when using this software was that it does not backup the PC extras sometimes found on DVDs. I would imagine just copying these across to your backup folder prior to burning the backup DVD, should work okay.

Hope it does the job for you.
