View Full Version : [Semi-OT] Gaming Videocard

I plan to build a gaming system within the coming months. I plan to get an AMD 1800XP+ on an Epox 8KHA+ mobo. BTW, when not gaming, this box will DC full time, but I'm building it on the premise that I will game with it. My question to you is: What video card should I get? Keeping the price below $400 would be great, but all suggestions are welcome.

Reasons why would be good too :P

But again.... why? I know they are one of the best, but what's so great about them in your opinion?

GF3. I doesnt really matter if its a Ti 500 or a Ti 200 unless you need thoes extra couple of FPS. Othewise there really arnt very many options. The Raedon 8500 was hyped out, but from my understanding ATi still hasnt gotten their driver act togeater, and at the current time its still being beat by the GF 3 Ti 500.

If its going to be a light duty gameing box, and FPS and the latest features arnt necessary, then a GF2 ultra or GF2 pro are pertty cheep right now, and still offer decent preformance.

The think edge to balance on right now, though seems to be the GF3 Ti 200. It has te best mix of price, preformance, and new features.

A GeForce3 card. Why? The drivers are alread set to run optimally unlike the Radeon 8500, which is having its problems.

Don't get me wrong, I own both cards. It's just the GeForce card is easy to set up and use without a problem with anything that I run. Folding, games, internet.

Also the support for driver updares are good for the GeForce.

A proven track record is important, GeForce has it.


Go for a Leadtek GeForce Card, low cost good quality. Not much in the bundle when you buy it but who needs games you'll never play anyway. :)
