Hi,

Running DC on a notebook generates a lot of CPU heat.

I wonder what's other people's opinion running a DC project 24/7?

In the general case, running 24/7 is the only way I'll ever get enough points to catch Colin. :p Running on a laptop, though, is another proposition. Maybe it's just me, but I worry about heat damage to those tightly-packed expensive components. I have a laptop, but it's strictly business, not for crunching.

I suppose if you set it on some kind of heat-sink material or raised, so air could get under it... hmmm

a good chunk of my DC is from a test lab at work

a couple of months ago, i got 6 laptops in to "test"
3 each of Compaq N600c and N400c
new fairly speedy laptops running mobile p3 cpus

i ran them all for about 1 month 24/7 doing DC (G@h mostly) with no lockups/adverse effects that i could tell

but then i didn't pay for them either

Running my Dell CP750J (750Mhz) 24/7 on DNET - no problems last 3 months (it was overheating before, but I put iron tongs under place, where cpu rests :) )
