Looks like this project is going live on the 1st of March, see the notice at project site. Stats will be reset and there will be new clients. :) :) :)

Arrgh - another project to throw cycles at.

I need about 80 more boxes:swear:

The project has been officially launched :)

Hmm, it looks like we have to sign up again? Also the stats are borked.

The new client selects the X86ANSIC core on my XP2400, which only crunches at a rate of 3.21 MegaMD5/sec! :scared:

Not a good start.

pfb
03-01-2004, 09:08 AM
Is it me or is each client released getting slower? With the old 0.8, I would get around 12MegaMD5/sec, the 0.85 was getting 11.2MegaMD5/sec and now this live client is getting 8.4MegaMD5/sec - all on a P4 using the P4 client and the X86SSE2ALU2 core...

/edit- looks like the best way to get speed is to use the P4 client on a P4 under Linux: http://www.md5crk.com/?sec=speeds

Which client should be used for a XP2600+ running under W2K ?

There are two Windows clients - Windows and WindowsP4

My previous login doesn't work on the site anymore either.

pumpkin0
03-01-2004, 01:32 PM
Hmm, my old login is working fine. Perhaps give JLC an email and ask what's up.
I read in the mailing list that the reason the client runs slower is because he made the conditions required for DP generation 16x tougher.

Just looked at the md5_text.xml file and see that when it's testing the corse, X86SSE2ALU is getting 10.27MegaMD5/sec - so I assume it's the workunit that is causing the speed slowdown rather than any changes in the app...

The bug with the client selecting the wrong core has been fixed already. There is a new client (v1.0.1).

Problem found and solved. client v1.0.1 is now ready here:
http://www.md5crk.com/?sec=download

In some x86 platforms, there was a floating point variable being assigned just before the FPU was flushed of work (unlike d.net, md5crk uses BOTH the ALU and the FPU).

I got my account sorted out.
Jean deleted it from the database and I recreated it.

I have had a damm nightmare trying to get the client working properly on my HT CPU's.
I think I have it sussed now.

Only running MD5CRK on my P4 2.4 (~8MegaMD5/sec) and AMD64-3200+ (~10.3MegaMD5/sec) (both using Windows XP and the P4 client)...

If running on a AMD64 platform try the P4 client for the extra speed the SSE2 gives :)

I don't know if any of you have noticed, but the distance between DPs is now ~16 times greater. The admin was using a smaller distance in the beta stages to make sure the server could cope with the load.

I think everyone has noticed.

Anyone actually returned any scores yet ?
Looks like it is going to take over a day for the fastest PC's to do 200 DP's
Probably 2 days or more for most.

I was just able to get logged in and add a client. Pumpkin0 has just submitted 55 DP's putting us tyed for first! :D I'll talk to Dave about adding this project to the DC Repository as well when he adds NFSNET. Great opportunity for us to boost our math rankings.

There is an updated client ver 1.0.1 on the download page.

What kind of rates are you getting with the new client PCZ?

I got an average of 6.65 MegeMD5/sec on an athlon xp 1800. I haven't checked on the P4 to see how it's doing.

Bok
03-01-2004, 08:10 PM
I'm getting 8.5M on an XP2800@2.2.

It seems slower than the beta clients.

I am only running on P4's at the moment.

P4 2.8 10.5M
P4 3.0 11.4M
P4 3.2 HT 2 x 7.2M
P4 2.4 HT 2 x 6.1M {200mhz bus}
xeon 1.7 6.5M

magnav0x
03-01-2004, 08:32 PM
Actualy it's not slower, it's just he's changed the way the rates are calculated. He told me the rate changes would occur when I chated with him during beta. Seems I'll need to work on some stats for this project. Unfortunatly the CVS files are only updated daily :(. Maybe someone that's good with regexp's (Bok) can create some stats that update more often such as his EON stats.

Looks like US-Distributed has been poking their nose in our stuff again :D They hit the md5crk project and are now first. Time to crank it up boys and girls.

Bok
03-02-2004, 12:59 AM
It's just because they have sent a 200packet back first. Once we start rolling some in, things might change.

Strange as well as just a few weeks ago they told me they had 'no interest in md5crk'.... not that I believed it :rotfl:

Phil,

I really don't have a lot of interest in this program, but was asked by two of the members to help sort it out for them. Once I looked at it I realized it posed certain problems wihich would present a "learning opportunity" for me so I am going to use it to sort these out. I suspect when you guys and gals get rolling it will be an impressive sight.

Way to go guys/girls, Free-DC is in first place
Of course not many have completed/uploaded any work yet.
The stats seem to be updated more than once a day, they almost look like continuous/live updates. Great if it stays that way.

Which page could I pull the data from mag ?

I don't see one that shows the points for each user unless we used the xml ?

If there is one I've overlooked I'll be happy to apply my new stats engine to it :)

Ack you are right Bok, it would involve spydering the urls. Well so much for that idea, how about a basic one based on teams. At least that way we can keep a close eye on the competition.

p.s. I got about 245 DP's completed so far. One machine with 115 and another with 130. Can't wait until one actualy finishes! The only unit I have completed is from my ezracing website :rotfl:

PY 222
03-02-2004, 06:05 PM
magnav0x, will the units that are processed by your website be counted into your account?

I've setup an account on this project and loaded the applet onto one of my websites and I was just curious.

magnav0x
03-02-2004, 06:10 PM
Yes, as long as you add it to your account and follow the instructions on the site. It will submit the DP's to your account. Take a look at my stats:

http://www.md5crk.com/stats/users.php?action=view&id=1715378127

You'll see that it has credited my username with the completed DP from the site.

PY 222

Woohoo... thats great! That way, I'll have more firepower at my disposal since my site is being visited by quite a number of my friends.

Btw, we only need to register the top domain with MD4CRK and the subsequent pages under the directory will be included in right?

Example: my site is www.yeoh.us and I have an applet running on the frontpage but I have a forum www.yeoh.us/forum and I wish to run another applet there. So do I need to re-register the website www.yeoh.us/forum or not?

Sorry for asking question in here but I cannot seem to be able to get any documentation from the official site regarding this.

magnav0x
03-02-2004, 06:15 PM
I'm actualy not sure about that.... Wish I knew though, because mine runs when they viewing any pages including the forum. I so happened to stick mine in the footer of the skin.

Yeap, I saw your site right after I posted it. I think I am going to do the same for my forum and stick it into the footer template file and see what happens.

Maybe you can get some clarification from the Administrators of this project.

We can do 50K before I have to do something with my GIMPS account again. On the basic of the number of paths you have running I expect to to win, but as you say it should leave the team comfortably in the lead :)

Some of my paths will never score anything.

I messed around a lot the first day trying to get 2 instances to run properly on HT CPU's and uploaded lots of paths.

I think they disappear after 14 days.

Wish it didn't take so long to do 200 DP's.
