As most of you will have already noticed, we had quite a bit of downtime yesterday. The hosting company that's been handling our site suspended our account for making too many MySQL database calls (the forums use MySQL as a backend). It took quite a bit of time to get things back up and running again.

Currently, you are seeing this site on the hosting company's server, but after talking with Bok, it looks like I'll be moving our site over to his servers in the next 24 hours. Our current hosting company has re-enabled the site and they've told me that they'll keep an eye on things, but I'm more than a little irritated at the way they've handled this whole fiasco, so Free-DC is getting moved.

I'd like to thank everyone who emailed me to make sure I was aware of the problem, and all the people who graciously offered hosting space for us. Some of these were people from other teams which just goes to show you that the distributed computing community really is a great bunch of people.

Things may get a bit bumpy over the next day or so while I prepare to migrate the site, so hang on guys. I know we just went through a move to get it to our current location, but hopefully this will be the last one in a while. For those who are curious, the whole point of the move to our current location was to offer a faster connection than I could provide from my network. That aspect has been better, but it doesn't do us much good when the site gets suspended without warning. Bok's setup, on the other hand, sounds like it'll be both fast and reliable.

I was totally shocked when I tried to log in yesterday and saw the sign.

I was lost.

Now my Free-DC is back! Woohoo!

Wow Dyy, its impressive you got everything back up and running this fast. With them suspending your account, I figured it would have taken longer to straighten everything out.

Good luck with the move. Yes, even people from other Teams still can't get enough Free-DC. :D

Thank you, Dyy, for the work getting the site back up.

Also to all the folks who offered hosting. I'm touched that folks from other teams offered. When people complain to me that geeks are rude, and have no social skills, I tell them we focus on the important things. This is another example of that.

Not that I think we are a rude bunch <g>.

As a visiting member from one of your strongest competitor's, I would also like to congratulate you on getting the site back up so quick. That was sorta a crappy thing for someone to do to ya'll, without any notice.
Don't want to see ANY (well...OK...maybe 1 or 2 :D :D ) teams have this sorta problem.
Hope the switch-over goes well. I believe you will find a very good home with Bok's equipment.
No worries Mate.
