Anyone know of some good but different Linux websites? I'm looking for websites that have anything to do with Linux, but not the normal websites that have to do with distributions or kernel development or downloading Linux (unless they are unusual). Maybe a site that shows some killer off-the-wall graphical shells (pardon my misuse of terminology; just starting to learn Linux) or a site devoted to awesome games developed only for Linux.

I have an assignment to come up with 10 links (that are totally unrelated and have different root domains) for a Linux class homework assignment. I don't want to turn in the same 10 that everyone else will be turning in!

Here are some of the basic types of sites that I'm not that interested in:

www.redhat.com
www.linux org
www.linuxiso.org
www.distrowatch.com
www.gentoo.org
www.kernel.org (although this is a good one to know about)

I don't like doing someone's homework for them, but this is something that is rough to google.

IBM has an interesting Linux site, with great tutorials, informational articles and all kinds of general good stuff at http://www-136.ibm.com/developerworks/linux/. You may need to register, but they seem to be pretty good at not spamming you. Don't miss the LPI certification tutorials.

Included in that area is a good Windows to Linux page: http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/linux/library/l-roadmap.html. It includes stuff like Webmin and other admin tools, and is aimed at system administrators more than end users.

There is always Mad Penguin, at http://www.madpenguin.org/.

One of my favourite sources of computer news, including Linux, is www.theregister.co.uk. The site runs on Linux, so maybe it counts.

hmmm,

I guess some of these are a little obvious and not necessarily totally linux but

slashdot (http://slashdot.org)
freshmeat (http://freshmeat.org) sourceforge (http://sourceforge.org)
Tux.org (http://www.tux.org)

A great cartoon strip which is sadly defunct now but was run by two of my friends is

Hackles (http://hackles.org)

The content was mostly linux orientated and in fact I know the people whom the characters are loosely based upon :)

I'll try and think of others...
