Suggestion: Let the client crunch while uploading

If possible, let the client continue crunching while it is uploading. My client was doing nothing for "quite a while" because I was uploading ~1 days work on a slow modem connection.

I'm in the same situation as you with my home PC. I assume you're using the '-i f' option to let the client run until you're dialed in. Then use the '-u t' option to upload the results.
My solution is to have the client installed twice on my home PC in two different directories. I let only the 1st install of the client run before I dial in. When I'm dialed in I start the upload with the '-u t' option and then start the 2nd install of the client to continue crunching.
