View Full Version : Retaking # 1

Since we have been out producing US-D by a couple hundred a day. How long before we retake the #1 spot?

it might take a while, but i may move some more fast machines to this :drums:

I was doing some math on this last night & forget what I came up with, but it was a long time. With the large #'s of USD's Eon-team members who have found other homes, they really only have 4 or 5 members who are interested in it.

With just a half-dozen dedicated members here, it could EASILY be done. Same as in Chess. With a small amount more fire-power on these 2 projects, both of them would be ours.

The #1 rule in Eon is "Linux RULES!!!"---3 to 5 times as fast!!!

FoBoT

crap, they are ahead today

they had somebody get back onto it and is way up there and bumped them ahead of us

it is a really easy client to install, but putting linux on the boxen first takes a spot of time :geezer:

Although I am DEFINITELY no Linux expert. I DO know how to download it, burn it, install it, & get Eon, Chess, & DNET going in maybe an hour. I did 3 machines like this in a couple short sessions around a month ago.

This is RedHat9 & these DC-projects only. I don't know how to do anything else (but Ubero) But my 3 run 24/7 like this & never self-destruct, so I guess I did it good.

Anyone interested, PM me & I'll send you the step-by-step instruct's that I used. They're written at grade-school level 'cause that's all I can understand.:D :D :D

I think I still have them on this HD. If not, I can have them rewritten by tomorrow night. No worries.

I was out on my machines for a couple of hours while I moved machines around, lost about 800 or so I guess.

Should be ok now, though a few machines are still offline. Had some 'all you can eat crab legs' plus Guiness with an Irish friend so I'll fix 'em tomorrow :)

Hey Bok, did ya have some hot butter to dip those things in? ?
I quit drinking after leaving the military, so I'd have ta give you my Guiness, but I can make myself hurt for days with those legs & butter.:p :p :p

That Mandrake should make a noticeable difference.:D :D :D

I only have one linux box left since I decommissioned my farm :(

Fortunately it is the PXE server :)

Before you trash the mandrake install, try this (http://www.open-dc.org/eon.tar.gz) , it worked for willy1 on mandrake 9.1

missing (libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2)

I still have 2 FreeBSD 5.1 boxes. :)

Bok
04-25-2004, 09:28 PM
I thought as much :)

Just copy it from another box into /usr/lib/

or symlink a later version to that one and it will work.

ln -s libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.2 libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2

or whatever you have in /lib or /usr/lib

Well, rjkc4 is one of the good guys over there and has a lot of power at his disposal. If you are reading, hi Kevin, it's been a while!

I think they are mainly playing in Boinc anyhow.

Heh.......... yep, I'd say that U-dubya isn't going to be doing much more eon since the project moved to UT. But we keep at it and we will move past them anyway.

As for USD, if Fritz gets active on this it could really get interesting in a real hurry!!!! We'd have a real contest running then. :)

First you need to get a password for your account. Go here (http://eon.cm.utexas.edu/getpassword.php).

Then go here (http://eon.cm.utexas.edu/login.php) to join Free-DC Team.

One month later....

Wu's are smaller and the server is 90% of the time up.
We are again behind US-Distributed but with a little help we can reach them.
Each one of you can spare one machine.

I've got a couple of instances running on my non-FaD machines. This new Magnesium experiment is pretty fast!

Nice output from Lexx today !!!

I'd just be worried about the Eon server if more people jumped back on at this point, that's when it crashes :swear:

Well if a few more machines breaks the server, let's see what happens when I move 20 or so over tonight and tomorrow. My target is team 5th place....

Do I remember someone saying that the client produces more under Linux?

How does this do on a multi-proc and/or HT box?

Does it like Intel or AMD better?

black_civic55
06-09-2005, 02:14 AM
ughhh as my struggle for top 10 will increase even more now!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im just playin, I'm all for whats best for the team. Cant wait for that new computer so ill have one more on EON.

I think the difference between windows and linux is much smaller these days. Also based on a post from graeme yesterday/day before, the wu's are about to get longer as they switch to a more metallic experiment...

AMD/Intel doesn't seem to make a difference.
