Since I'm probably going to build my girfriend a new computer from scratch next month or so, I wonder wich board to take.
Funds are limited as always:D
It is going to be a socket A AMD machine...
It is supposed to be fast without a big need for overclocking etc... altough I was thinking about saving some money and take a XP2500 and overclock it...
What I need is stability, good speed with normal parts and some USB 2.0 ports, onboard lan & maybe onboard sound. I don't want to take any cheap stuff (she deserves better:D )

But i don't know which board to take !!! I locked into the Abit NF-7 and I liked pretty much...any other ideas?
all in all I can use about 1000€ and I need to get everything...
My plan:
Board(?)
AMD XP 2800 (or overclocked 2500)
2 x 256 MB RAM (DDR400)
ATI 9600 pro or 9700 vid card
Samsung 120GB HD
some DVD-ROM
and maybe a NEC 2500 DVD writer (or does anybody have a better tip?)
a Midi-Tower case
a quality Power Supply (maybe antec)
an 19" CRT Screen (not shure what to take eiter, I like Samtron/Samsung though)
and a printer....

Any other /better ideas?
It hast to be quite fast and very reliable...

Thanks in advance

Just built one of these for my main home cruncher, with an xp3000+ and a gig of very fast RAM. Runs really well. Biostar M7NCD-Pro DDR S/L. Here's a linky (http://www.tcwo.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_prod.html?p_prodid=3163&sid=44oBmP0-AHPODlk) .

I'm building another identical box this weekend. Got a lot of respect for the Biostar boards. Very solid and will take any AMD up to & including the 3200+. I never overclock my boards - I like 'em to last.

Hmm, doesn't lock bad, but got 2 Problems:
First it has a fan on the Northbridge (I don't like that )
And second they don't seem to be so popular in Germany... They are not carried in the online stores I usually order at...

So any other suggestions?

Hmm well Thor Im running a XP2600+ on a MSI KT6-Delta - with 512Mb of 333 runs fine, can run 400 but on in 2 of the 3 slots.
The KT6 has got onboard : 5.1 sound, 10/100 LAN (LAN bootable ;) ) USB 2.0 not sure how many of the 6 USB ports are actually USB 2 but I suspect it maybe only 2.
It also has onboard SATA with drivers and raid utility setup ;) limited to Raid 0 or 1 but this isn't for you lol hmm cost ain't too bad either ;)
