okay you've sold me on the D2OL, where do I start, what do I need and does it play nice with other projects like Lifemapper?

but it is dead easy to run.

Download it register yourself on the website while thats happening.

Install it and use the email addy you used to register with to register the node.

Once you have done that copy the noide.prp file somewhere safe in a folder named with the node ID number. You can't get it back if you lose that folder anyway.

You can run it without the GUI by creating a shorcut and adding controller:cli or controller:file.

If you use the CLI option you will need to edit the d2ol.lax file

# LAX.STDERR.REDIRECT
# -------------------
# leave blank for no input, "console" to read from the console window,
# and any path to a file to read from that file

lax.stderr.redirect=console

# LAX.STDIN.REDIRECT
# ------------------
# leave blank for no input, "console" to read from the console window,
# and any path to a file to read from that file

lax.stdin.redirect=console

# LAX.STDOUT.REDIRECT
# -------------------
# leave blank for no input, "console" to read from the console window,
# and any path to a file to read from that file

lax.stdout.redirect=console

If you go for the file controller you will need to edit the control.prp file to adjust how the node acts.

It's all in the readme and pretty easy.

As far as linux goes you'll have to get input from someone else as I am not too hot on that OS at the moment.

Wow Fozzie, that sounds too tough for me:rotfl:
I just installed, registered, and clicked the properties button (check mark on DDOL graphic window under target)
Unselect the "Launch main window on startup" and the animations. I also minimize the detail and turn the messages off
Very quick install that way
Someday I'll get time to set up as a service, but priority for me is turning these boxen on to something:D
Don't forget to go to the website and add the node when you're done
Welcome aboard:thumbs:

On a non-HT or dual processor box it will not play well with others. I run either UD Grid or TSC on my HT's with this.
