There appears to be a problem with the latest Mac client. The longer the client runs, the more memory it takes up until eventually it uses all the memory and freezes. This has been reported by several individuals on the MacNN team forums. My own specifics are as follows.

iBook 600, Mac OS-X, 256 mb RAM. The client starts out using about 8% of memory. after 24 hours it was using over 53% of memory. After 25-30 minutes it is already up to 9.5% of memory.

Power Mac 800, Mac OS-X, 512 k memory. Starts out using 4% of memory. after 38 hours of running it was up to 56.4% of memory.

Quitting the client and restarting, clears the problem, but it looks like it needs to be restarted on a daily basis. Depending on machine memory, after a point the client will just freeze as no more memory is available, or will slow to a crawl, as it uses virtual memory.

No one noticed this problem with the last protein.
