:swear:
These BOINC 'projects' just don't work... :bang:

Can't get SETI WUs,
Can't get Predictor WUs due to needing an OLD version of the client.
LHC having serious server problems since Feb. 10th, 2004?

NEWS 2.10.2004 15:00 UTC
LHC@Home database is having bad performance.
We should get another server soon and get things running better.

Someone wake me up IF/when these projects get running WELL please.
Till then :moon:

I'll continue with Folding@Home and d2ol

my SETI BIONC has settled down over the last couple days and i am getting/returing work regularly

but, i am still not getting credit, the part that "validates" or whatever the work before you get credit seems to be their lowest priority

it could be months/years before "SETI Classic" is retired at this rate

Lets hope they get this thing fixed pronto since I am having a very hard time looking at my stats.

IB! Dood! You gotta get your head into the Euro way....

2.10.2004 is October 2 - that's only yesterday

I want to start running LHC - but still can't seem to get an account created.

Yes LHC started having trouble yesterday. 02/10/2004
Up till then it was working well.

Predictor stopped a month or so ago after they finished CASP.
Even if you use the Boinc version 3 software you wont get any work from them.

Seti is really bad.
There is a 2 week queue to get any credit !!
Download a WU today and return it, and you will be lucky to get credit for it by november.
Obviously if you persevere with it long enough the credit starts to flow.

The LHC web site is slow at the moment but you should be able to create an account.

If you were needing to sort -
Year/Month/Day would be best
Month/Day would work for at least same year...
Day/Month/Year would be terrible no matter how you looked at it. :rotfl:
Maybe someone should wake them folks up over there that make them rules :Pokes: :D

From what I can read/see around here,
BOINC is not ready for prime time, and may not be for sometime then?

Oh and to make things even worse they use UTC time as well !!

Of course Free-DC have never got involved in projects before that weren't ready for prime time :jester:

LHC seems to be responding now.

I got an account created, and DL'd a pile of work. Already completed 2 'units' (what do they call them in BOINC?).

How long does it take for credit to show up at LHC?

PCZ

Takes a day or so, depends how long others take to return the same WU.
They go to multiple clients.

You can normally check on the status of your pending credit but with the system in such a poorly state it probably wont work.
In fact I think they temporarly disabled most of the database intensive lookups yesterday to try and keep the DB up.

LHC was working really well until very recently.
There was an upsurge in the number of users which has stretched the hardware.
I blame Seti because people are crunching LHC instead !!

The LHC admins are a different breed then the Seti admins and they have said publicly that they will install another server and fix the problem.
They appear to have the resources, money/skill to do this so, I am confident it is only a temporary glitch.

Things seem to moving smoothly now.

I'm getting new work, and returning results.

It looks like they still have the db access up, but severely restricting the number of connections. I got a couple of 'too many connection' errors, but a couple of retries and I was in.
I was able to add my id to the team, and check results. I'm already showing in the stats, so this is good! I like this project - lots of quick work units :)

They just disabled access to the forum.

A weak part of the Boinc design is that the Forum uses the main DB.
I think this is so you dont have to sign up seperately.

Because this just happened it must mean that the Admin is working on a weekend !!
OH I feel faint :D

Still get the same error:

Warning: Too many connections in /shift/lxfsrk429/data01/boinc/projects/lhcathome/html/inc/db.inc on line 20
Unable to connect to database - please try again later Error: 1040Too many connections

I know they know about the problem. Lets hope they get those extra db servers up.

Most folks attach to more than one project.
You can adjust your prefs so that your favourite project gets the lions share of CPU time.

cpdn (http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/index.php) is the most reliable 'backup'.

Also if you do CPDN WU's you do not have to wait months for them to finish before getting credit.
You get a regular trickle of credit.

Boinc is quite flexible but it takes a while to work out how to get the best out of it.

All this makes me glad I'm still pounding away at seti classic. If they keep pushing back the date for shutting down classic because boinc isn't ready for prime time, I just might make the top 1000 users.

So you all keep trying to keep your heads above water, when the pool warms up, I'll jump in.

Looks like LHC is going to be short of work.
They have decided not to re issue old work to keep people crunching.

This is a bit odd considering they were aiming to have 50,000 participants when they went live.

Boinc has been one frustration after another.
I think I will leave Boinc to the Fanboys.

:( See if you can put a couple/few boxen on F@H, if you can...
Of course, I'm sure Ars would appreciate a swift death in d2ol :rotfl:

I will take a look at version 5 and run a test on a few boxes.
