Has anybody got any long workunits that takes more than 10 hours to finish?

I've got one that is into its 5th hour and according to the progress bar, its only chewed a total of 36%.

I know that there are some that takes a few minutes because of early collision but what about the long ones?

Anyone with a physics degree that would like to explain or a link to something worth reading?

I think it works something like this:

The path the particles take through the LHC has to be carefully controlled.
If they collide with the walls of the LHC they could damage it.

The shorter WU's simulate a small number of turns. {1000 - 10,000 I think}
This will quickly show if the settings being used are suitable.
Unsuitable settings can be quickly weeded out.

The Longer WU's simulate a larger number of turns {100,000 or more}
I presume as the design matures the number of turns will be in the millions to simulate whole runs through the LHC.

Basically you simulate a small number of turns, if the settings have produced an accurate path for the particules through the LHC then the number of turns in the simulation is increased.

I've had several jobs with 1,000,000 (one meeelion) turns, and they are only taking me 7 hours ish.
