Ok, now I'm starting to get grandious thoughts. Like making it to the top 100 in teams. Or having everyone in the top 10 for Free-DC active.

Fun, isn't it? <g>

At our current pace,
being in the top 100 teams should not be too difficult to achieve before the end of this year. :D

I'm supposed to be getting a new p4 hyperthreaded with a gig of ram for my new work computer. I should be able to contribute a bit more when I get that machine.

QIbHom

Cool, Doc. New work computers are almost as much fun as new home computers. Takes a lot longer to get them set up properly, though.

Over a million? Yay us!

You know, this is fun in a different way than staying first in DF. We may not be number 1, but we do get to see steady improvement.

IronBits

While you guys are doing so well, I think I'll sneak off and do a little
DPAD action to widen our lead in hopes they will settle down. :D

Keep up the great work, I would like to see us in the top 100 before New Years! :smoking:

I'll add another box if I can persuade someone else to do the same.

I've already got all the computers I can get on this, as often as I can get them (1 offline, 5 always online, 13 when on for other purposes).

Would add more if I had them.

Still, we are doing well, and moving up quickly. Amazing how much fun it is to not be number 1.

I'll add a few boxes to this project. I need to try to get in the top 20 team ranking any how :D .

I've added 4 boxxen, all always on, but not that quick. I'm in the process of upgrading my entire farm, so if anyone knows where I can get some Dell GX-270s in the SFF setup cheap, I'd be greatly appreciative.

112th place now and we are on the heels of a few teams. Looks like we have JUST enough fire power to squeeze into the top 100 by New Years. Another cruncher or two on this project and it should be a guarantee.

Wow, I just had some free time and noticed DF is done, so I will be moving some boxes over to FAH tonight. I would be honored to help the team break 100 before new years.

Thanks for the welcome. I had a good experience with the DF crew, and this one seems even more fun and productive.

Just an update on tonights installing adventures:

Installed FAH on several labs and other misc boxen just now which adds 117,526 MHz to our effort. Hopefully the ghosting process didn't effect the client. And after Christmas vacation many of these boxes will go back to normal unfortunately.

For the time being, I've got 5 systems with a work unit on each.... long ones. Hopefully one will finished late today and then the points should show up under FDC_Lexx.

Is the grand plan here to try and start working this project up the ladder permanently, or is this just "hit and run" to borrow the vernacular from a song a while back? :)

magnav0x
12-26-2004, 02:22 PM
Well I think we would all like to get as far up in the project as possible, at least the top 50. I'll probably stick with FAH for as long as possible to see just how far we can climb.

Mustard
12-26-2004, 02:27 PM

QIbHom
12-26-2004, 02:45 PM
I'm planning on staying here until DF restarts or until something comes along that meets my needs better (Win and Linux clients, offline too, etc.)

Some of the folks (Condor, at least) have been doing f@h all along, some of us are DF refugees.

Mustard
12-26-2004, 07:34 PM
ah, good... :) I just finished a 241 pointer, so my name will show up on the stats page now. Now the rest of them can start trickling in.

When nothing else looks more appealing at the moment, I stick the boxes on this.
I will probably be on this for a while.

QIbHom

Sorry, Condor. I just assumed that with the stats you were returning, you'd been doing f@h for quite awhile.

This is a good fallback project. Not quite as trouble-free for me as DF was. But, hey, none of them are perfect.

Tamari

magnav0x

I switch over most of my machines to do larger WU's, apparently that was a bad idea, they are all going to take about a week to complete. I'll have to switch them back to small units when they complete. So I'll look to be pretty quiet until after new years. Darn 600 pointers.

magnav0x
12-31-2004, 12:44 PM

This has been great fun, watching us move up so quickly. At this rate, we'll be top 50 before July.

Tamari has really kicked up production. but so has Maefly, FDC-Lexx, and, of course, beth133. We've got some folks just chugging way, which is wonderful. Those with one or two boxen who don't give up are the folks I really admire. It can be discouraging to be passed by someone with a farm.

Nice job, gang. I was mostly kidding about the New Year's goal of getting into the top hundred. Obviously, I lacked vision <g>.

Tamari
01-05-2005, 11:19 PM
The good news: We've just hit 80. :|party|: Also, I will be adding more machines in the next few weeks if all goes to plan. Scores of teams ahead of us are total roadkill. Also, as usual, Free-DC has the highest (from what I can tell) active users/production ratios!

The bad news: It's going to be slower advancing from here on in. Gone are the days of passing multiple teams in a 24 hr. period. But that's ok, we are still over taking them, and the real heavy hitters don't start until @ the 25th spot.

Keep on rockin!

That's too bad Maefly :( At least they will be going for the other 15 hours right?

Just found out that my slow machines all had the same unique ID, so only one of the machiens was getting credit:swear: , just fixed them all. (Don't image a pre-installed client) Also set to tinker, so hopefully will give a boost in points too!

And finished installing on some brand newboxen.:|party|: Love the smell of brand new F@H installs.:p

It's great how we are increasing our momentum! This should be the first month we produce ONE MILLION POINTS! We may also hit 10,000 WU completed for the month, but if not that can be next months challenge!

The past 3 months we've been increasing our production by at least 100,000 points. This month it should increase over 400,000 points!

January 2005 1,000,000 points here we come! Next stop February 10,000 Work Units! With Thors new Xeons, and maybe a few more fresh installs we can do it!

Keep Rockin and ROFL :rotfl:

This page (http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_overtake.php?s=&t=758) implies that we can pass all but 25 or so teams (granted, some of them are ~10 years off), but there's our information... I just restarted a bunch of crashed machines, so I hope to see something good come of it.

I fold with Ars TER (as Wishbone), but I have a lot of respect for the people of FDC. Plus I've seen firsthand what happens when you guys/gals get really motivated on a project. :notworthy

Right now, your weekly rate is in the top 30. If I have learned anything from watching you, it's to expect that rate to go up, not down.

Welcome, Hobbes. I was folding for TSF when I starting hanging out here, so I've got a soft spot for Arsians. Heck, I'm still an Arsian, even if I don't crunch Ars-style any more.

If more folks join in, our rate may well go up. One of the things about FDC, though, is that you never know what folks will decide to do.

Tamari
02-03-2005, 09:47 PM
Yeah I started in TSF too, but the DF community was pretty dead compared to Free-DC at the time. I'm sure it's the opposite for F@H now though lol.

Heh, that's alright. The way I see it, the more people who stay interested in DC, the better. Do what keeps your interest up.

I've noticed there's an interesting contrast between the two sites. Ars tends to reach a bigger audience, which can create a casual (and sometimes quiet) userbase. Generally speaking, FDC tends to draw in those primarily interested in DC. It's typically a more vocal/more aware userbase. (Not to say there's no team spirit within the Ars crew, or that all FDCers are loudmouth obsessives.) But if there was a way to combine the positives from both (large audience of involved, dedicated users), that would be quite a juggernaut.

Congrats on moving up a few more places in the team ranks!

QIbHom
02-07-2005, 02:44 PM
A lot of folks hang out both here and at Ars, Hobbes. I hang out at Ars still (although I seldom post). Some Arsians hang out here, although it happened more when DF was still going, since the official forum was here.

Which is great. I don't visit the other teams' boards often (besides Ars), but always enjoy someone dropping in from another team, and maybe bantering a little or passing tips on. We do get the best of many worlds, and the vast majority of folks involved in DC seem to be genuine good sports.

And, yes, what is good for DC is good for all of us. It is a friendly competition, where we all win. I've seen folks drop by from other teams, and post a link to a solution to a sticky problem someone on their team solved. Where else will people who are "competing" help their opponants? Besides jr. level curling, that is.

Tamari
02-19-2005, 09:48 PM
Wow, 56th place and production is strangely high today! Keep rockin!

Tamari
02-22-2005, 12:58 PM
I know this guy who admins 45,000 machines including a 32 cpu opteron box, trying to get him to run F@H, but since the machines control nuclear reactors and stuff I don't think he will go for it. It would put us in first place within a week though!

Do you think some nuclear disasters are worth getting us to first?

Darkness Productions
