They just updated the information page at Grid.org

Cancer Project Update Nov 16 (http://www.grid.org/projects/cancer/proj_news_20041116.htm)

They have also added

The Human Proteome Folding Project (http://www.grid.org/projects/hpf/)

Looks like they may be teaming up with IBM later today too

World Community Grid (http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/internet/11/16/science.ibm.grid.reut/index.html)

unless this is a totally new project

Wow! Am I involved in "a grassroots movement among hardcore techies" (CNN article) :rotfl:

Perhaps IBM will help them write a linux client so as not to alienate that portion of the community.......

This, i believe is a new project.

According to the CNN article, it seems to be an attempt to gain greater outside support for distributed computing. I think this has a change to become a pretty big project. (I might be wrong)

Many companies and large organizations have many computers that are not under use. If its appealing to those companies, they usually use windows intel type processors. Maybe because they believe most of their support is going to come from companies like ibm, then maybe that's why right now they only have a windows client. Despite this, they should try to keep their appeal to the current DC "hardcore" community as well. It still "owes a debt" to SETI for really making DC become well known.

This project is about :
" The Human Proteome Folding project will provide scientists with data that predicts the shape of a very large number of human proteins. "

Sounds a lot like DF to me.

Interesting stuff. How about somebody putting this all into a front page post? I'm not keeping up with UD so it'd be easier if someone else did it (plus I'm lazy :)).

If someone would like to do this and PM it to me, I'd be happy to post it...

Dont forget to mention the project only works on windows boxes and can only run one instance.
